I've got my Jan spot for the lume job on my CD...I'm looking forward to it. Awesome stuff.

The power reserve is too far to the left. The power reserve dial should actually truncate the "15" time marker. The date window is also too high and should be sitting right over where the "30" marker is. The baton markers are wrong too. The markers are actually more 3-D looking...with the lume sitting quite low between the side pieces. Here's a pic of Siesta181's gen (I see you looking at the thread, BTW...so am taking the liberty of posting this). If you note the outside "end" of the baton markers on the rep are flush with the sides, whereas on the gen they are actually sunken. This would be a mod I think needs to be done to give the dial more dimension. Siesta's pictorial can be found by clicking the pic above. You can also read about his saga with the faulty lume marker HERE. The gen is 45.5mm...so if this is really only 42mm it is quite a bit smaller. But boy...am I glad they've repped this. I really do love this watch. The size is a bit tricky though, as this piece as per Siesta's pic, smokes on the croc strap. So, if they don't have the proper case size, it will be tricky matching either an aftermarket strap or gen strap to this one...as I'm not a huge fan of the kevlar "look" strap.

It looks good to me. Is that a gen insert? I've seen gen inserts with both the pointy #4 like yours and the wide topped #4...I'm not sure why the difference.

The end link tapering is different too. I haven't heard of any success stories with a bracelet on the 2006/2007. For people who wanted a bracelet, they went the Slevin route (3719).

Black Steel .. Scratch resistant ~Yes It Is!
Toadtorrent replied to lanikai's topic in The Breitling Area
AARRRRGGGH...must resist Blacksteel...MUST!!! Great to hear about that coating. I could feel your pain post-scratch. I did the same thing to a gen Rollie...2 days after getting a new crystal installed...except mine didn't have a happy ending...back to Rolex for servicing. -
I've had a few hit and runners...but I've also had some really positive responses to the info I've provided. Really positive...and those few really do make up for anything wanting in other less courteous members. At least a couple have upgraded to Supporter based on how surprised they were about both the quality of the board, and the personalities that make the forum a real place of community...and for that, I'm actually quite proud. In return...the questions I've asked have ALL been answered, speedily and so many have really gone beyond the call of duty in many cases, mailing stuff out to me to help with my screw ups or upcoming projects that the only thing I can do beyond say thank you, is hope that I can uphold the sense of class I've been shown. I do think there's a generation thing going too. My wife is a professor at a fairly important university and she's seen some real decline in formal communication skills with the current "text message" based population. Emails are truncated, smiley loaded and lack any form of respect. Students address her as "Hey Prof", etc...crazy stuff I would never dream of doing in what I consider a fairly formal, and respectful relationship. Interview skills are very lacking in a lot of the younger generation I see...making the ones who do exhibit sense and decorum really stand out. I roll my eyes...and hope that I can try and emulate the same respect I hope to receive...even with the "short" and terse PMs I sometimes get.

Go MacGyver...great solution. My "theorized" solutions are always infinitely more complex than they need to be.

Regulating the movement is a quick fix. Check the Noob Guide linked in my signature for the reference to the article on how to regulate it!

What a great tribute...and really, I can't think of a better person to restore such a fitting tribute. Not only a technical master, but somebody who has a real appreciation of its history. A fantastic, tangible reminder for the next generation to be thankful for all we have today!!

Review: Omega Speedmaster Schumacher Legend
Toadtorrent replied to southcoast68's topic in The Omega Area
Way to go!! A great write-up. I've come close to buying the gen version of this one on more than one occasion. It is a beautiful piece. It's funny that subdial spacing...I've been spending so much time in the rep world, and have seen more gen MID-sized Speedies that have the apparent wider subdial spacing like the rep (unlike it's tighter full-sized big brother), that I actually like the wider spacing more now!! Go figger!! A great piece. I've seen different gen casebacks for the The Legend series...so I'm not sure which one is what for accuracy. -
Very interesting! It looks great. Where did you get your steel stock blank? Did you get steel rod from Active Surplus and just file it down while spun on the dremel and then drill it out?? I'm impressed! It would be hard to get that hole in the bezel drilled deeper as you would probably need a tiny forstner bit and a solid protective clamp setup. IT would be tricky to drill out without overheating the metal and turning it purple.

Solid midlinks will be heavier. It's been discussed in the past that people sometimes put the INACCURATE solid midlink bracelet on the SD's/Subs because it felt more solid due to the increased mass. Real Rollies are quite light...except for the solid gold ones or the new Deep Sea. The feel of the finish of a gen one is what stands out. They feel more fluid and well finished...hard to describe unless you've handled one. You can get close to the feeling with the oiling, and buffing down the sharper edges.

Welcome aboard. We have some of the best Daytona experts on this forum. Look up using the Search tool (advanced search) and look for daytona posts by Freddy333 and Ubiquitous. Amazing stuff. You'll also want to look up posts by The Zigmeisterzumba on the 7750 seconds at 6 movement to give you a heads up if you want a Daytona with this configuration. Good luck. Read, search, learn, share!! ...and have fun. Read the Noob Guide pinned in my signature...it will help you get up and running quickly.

That's the new one. From what I've read...that generation (modern vs. vintage) will take the same insert as the 16800. I'm about to go down this path as well, as I already have a decent insert and pearl which I will mod, that will be going on a SSD when it arrives (16600).

Good luck and speed!! Don't delay writing up too long for risk of getting scooped...trust me.

Hello all - new to the wide Rep world!
Toadtorrent replied to MasterMark's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Use the search tool...and ye shall find. I remember a Patek guide that came out not too long ago. You might start scanning in the Other Brands area for it...and use the search tool for that subsection. Welcome aboard. The Patek reps of note are the Aquanut and the Nautilus. If you are not needing exceptionally accurate ones but still want a beautiful watch, any of the dressier lines are still quite nice watches (e.g. Calatrava). -
Very interesting stories. Now I want to check out your Chrono Avenger!! How did you make the pearl?? That's a tutorial that needs to happen methinks!! For the most part, I don't work with a lot of people who are really into watches. There are a lot of gen Rolexes lying around...but nobody is really into them and just bought them because of the name. I have had bank tellers comment on my watches a few times at the BMO main branch on King though. I find making those subtle changes really makes a difference in how I look at items though, and possibly how I wear them. After The Zigmeister did some work on my SMP Chrono he threw in some bonus work of painting my hands to match the rehaut red markings and asked if I noticed his surprise. I didn't. I tried comparing it to some other reps like Lani's...and still couldn't tell the difference...only to realize that The Zigmeister did the same work to the other watches I was comparing so no wonder I couldn't see the difference. When he told me what he did...everytime I look at the watch, I can't keep my eyes off the beautiful mod...small...but the value's in the details I guess!!

Very nice...want to sell that dial? It has the proper feet on the logo. ;) Congrats and wear it well.

Welcome aboard ineed. It's nice to hear our work here is appreciated. I know I've benefitted from this community in more ways than I thought I would at the start and that has provided the drive to do more for it. So, how long until your dissertation is done? ;) Can you tell I've had LOTS of friends who have done theirs? They hated it when I asked that question...which, with the RobbieG in me...made me ask it again, and again because...well...it was kind of fun.

Check out what I just pick up at a garage sale....
Toadtorrent replied to a topic in General Discussion
I'm with you on this Rob. Mind you...I was first in line to get a score on some heart rate monitors that looked like POS...and luckily turned out to still POS but POS that were happily re-gifted. -
First rep jitters...heh heh. EMS is fine...the standard...no worries. FEDEX/DHL are bad...

If there's one person that deserves to work on a watch like that, it's you The Zigmeister!
