  1. That's a gen catalogue pic. Note the HEV position. I've been wanting a gen ladies SMP in quartz...beautiful in the scale and the quartz is fine for that watch for sure I think!
  2. I was right there with $31.28... Great score for you. I would love to see pics of that IWC as well!! How old was it??
  3. You got that right. We obsess over things you can't see without high magnification...the average person on the street doesn't even know how to spell "IWC".
  4. Fun fun!! You'll know in a few hours if you were really heavy handed with the adjustments. As to the hands...get a proper hand tool, Rodico and a hand setting tool (or modded toothpick...clipped and centre dug out for the cannon pinion)...and protect the dial. I use the Bergeon dial protectors...others use post-it notes...and do it at 12-o-clock (lunch time...not date roll-over time if you have a date movement).
  5. That's true. If a damaged car came to a dealer, they wouldn't have accepted it. It just goes to show how good value the reps are!! At least when a rep arrives with crooked wheels or missing lume, you get grumpy but you kind of expect it deep down inside. I'm sure the AD will remedy the situation...likely with a bonus strap or buckle or something.
  6. Aaah...you figured it out. Yes...just adjust the arm. You only need to move it fractions of mm's...
  7. I don't know if it's an AD issue. I think AD's generally rely on high end brands to do their own QC. That's the whole point of buying a high end brand...because you're not supposed to have to worry about anything. ADs are to provide advice, and post-purchase support...and then dealing with the customer with the best possible where required. Most ADs don't have staff that are that knowledgeable about things I find.
  8. Great write-up. I do like quite a few of the pieces in the Ball line. They make the classic conductor/trainmaster pocket watch you see in a lot of train museums. Classic!!
  9. I've never seen a congregation like that. Amazing. I remember being up near Haines one time, and watching a pack of fly fisherman in the river turn around and find a bear poking through their tackle boxes on shore...and all of them had left their guns with their tackle boxes. Nobody got hurt...the bear got salmon.
  10. That's great The Zigmeister. My parents are big time dancers...as is their entire social circle. And watching my father take on a hobby like this is great considering it, like you, is so out of his comfort zone. I took a series of classes in university and it was a blast. You can't take it or yourself too seriously. Lindy hopping is great fun!
  11. I reposted the guide and shrunk down the pics so it's not a 40mb post to download anymore.
  12. I gasp everytime I see this lineup...awesome
  13. I received my DeWitt catalogue awhile back. Man...if that book doesn't make you fall in love with the watches...I don't know what will.
  14. Those are phone shots? Crap...my phone cam SUCKS!! These are great!
  15. Great addition to the forum. Good job!!
  16. 2 Great items. The Cooper S is a fun car to drive...amazing for sure.
  17. Membership has its privileges. I honestly couldn't tell you. A quick email should do it. I think most dials usually go between $40 - $60.
  18. Try any of the collectors. I'm getting a new V1/V3 dial from Peter who is essentially Angus partner. I don't know if he can get a V2 dial as well... Josh/Andrew can sometimes get parts as well. Jay (Silix) should be able to source them as well. I don't know about others...as I haven't dealt with them.
  19. It's true. It's like a lot (not all) of car clubs. If you go to a Porsche owners meeting...it's all about lifestyle, and what you can afford to buy...but most drive like crap and don't really know anything about the cars themselves...just where the nearest performance tuning garage is and how to sign a credit card slip. Go to a Honda Civic mod club...and you get people who are passionate about cars and driving...not just buying stuff.
  20. It should be possible without problems. The case sizes, rehaut and everything as far as I know are all the same. I'm doing a dial swap but it's going from V1/V3 to V1/V3 "improved". All they did was improve the QC on the lume application. I don't think they did anything to the dial itself. A new dial isn't that much money, and a swap isn't too bad...or you can do it yourself.
  21. To be honest...I don't know. You can ask him to double check and ensure it's a gen Swiss movement. That's why there have been a few sales here and service projects to The Zigmeister and others where the users thought they were getting the real deal...then when The Zigmeister tries to fit gen parts in...finds they don't...does a close exam and finds that it isn't an ETA but a very good copy....HMMMMMMMMM... ...or in the case of sales, the seller thinks they are selling a gen movement. The buyer thinks they bought a gen movement...but when they crack it open finds out it isn't. What's the honourable thing to do? Refund or adjust price. Either way...the original buyer takes a hit. Bummer.
  22. Depends on who you buy it from...and how diligent you are in checking. Sometimes you pay for Swiss and you get ETA clone...complain, send the watch back, and odds are good you'll ge the right one. I'm not so sure that most of the collectors know the difference visually...they aren't watch experts...so even if it went through QC/QA, it would pass through. They likely take the word of their factories...which are factories engaged in an illegal business, so take their "word" with a grain of salt. Chris did a photo comparison in his section of how he QCs the difference and ensures you get the right movement you paid for.
  23. There you go! I love projects like these. As you know though...there are some out on TZ who don't really have an appreciation for anything non-gen (including bastard watches made from sourced parts as opposed to a complete watch with provenance).
