  1. It sounds like you're on your way. Welcome aboard. There are lots of Paneristis here so you should get all the help you need to shop for a rep of one...not necessarily the 1950 Rattrapante...haven't seen that one repped in good quality...but then again, I've not been looking at PAMs too much. You sound like you have an idea for which collector to go to...you're set. You could even get a Carrera chrono rep...excellent quality and decent price. It will complement your gen nicely.
  2. Very interesting JLC Dani...tell me more!!! And at Cats...nice classic Don Johnson watch. Well...not quite...but an older 1911 in gold!
  3. Yup...looking at Lani and Tazz's pics, this is the first Hublot that's making me go "hmmmmm...."...
  4. I'm not sure I fully understand your question. You can go to the IWC line and see what's available from IWC directly, and come back here to RESEARCH the replicas available for that model. That would probably be your best route. As to a sweep second hands...there are a few. Big Pilot (all black and blue faced though), FA Jones has a running secs @ 6 in a subdial but white dial, Mark XV, Ingy, etc. These are all NON-chronos. It sounds like the Mark XV and the Ingy are the only ones that might fit yor bill. If you are looking for a chrono with a sweep centre seconds...that I can't help you with.
  5. That's a trick question as you can get these watches with generally 4 types of movements: DG2813 (aka Asian 21J slow beat), DG4813 (aka Asian 21J high beat), Asian copy of an ETA, and the real ETA. Go to Eurotimez section, he has a post on identifying the difference between the Asian copy of the ETA, and the genuine ETA. Look up my re-post of AJS's tutorial on swapping out the DG2813 with the DG4813 and you will see lots of pics of both movements.
  6. Interesting read. Thanks Robbie!!
  7. Agreed. Great work and informative reading Wiseman!!! Glad you're on our side!!
  8. Much nicer design to me than the HBBs
  9. Customs is an issue in certain countries. Other countries...less so. If you're from Europe, most people feel better getting a collector who ships from Europe not Asia (e.g. Eurotimez, Homer, Precious Time). In Canada...never a problem. In the US...sometimes but overall not a problem really. Just don't ship by Fedex, DHL, UPS, etc...use EMS.
  10. Awesome. As far as sites go, you shopped from one that delivers...that's what matters. Expensive? Yes...but they delivered which is a lot better than other folks here have experienced from other scam sites. The watch looks good. Now...just because I'm a nice guy...here's some recreational reading (if you look at the end of the url, you will see the search terms used to find the pages): Care and Feeding of Automatic and Manual Watches Care and Feeding of A7750s Why Handwinding is Bad Problems Accelerating Wear and Maintenance of A7750s A7750 Power Reserve and Rotor Spinning Problems Noisy Rotor and Grease/Oil A7750 Spinning Rotor...is it a problem? How To Adjust Timing or Beat
  11. I've got a bunch of options listed in my review right in a row for your shopping pleasure.
  12. They should be able to. Just send various ones you deal with an email and ask...with the specific watch in question.
  13. That's quite the collection. Thanks for sharing.
  14. Great tips indeed Freddy...way beyond my skill level but interesting to read nonetheless. As an aside...some users have had success fitting ETA parts into the A7750 movements...others have not. An interesting post on this topic (including reversing gear replacement) can be found here: A7750 Rotor Spinning Thread
  15. If the stem has broken but the movement is fine. With pics of the movement, you might be able to order a new stem from some of the forum members who are also suppliers like Offshore. Possibly sending him a PM might get what you need. If it's a whole movement...depending on which on it is...members here should be able to help you identify it...and a substitute that you can order through supply outlets like Ofrei, Borel or even Offshore as well. You should post a topic with the header something like "Please Help Identify this Movement - automatic/manual wind in Patek Philippe rep"
  16. I sound like a naughty lymeric...but without the naughtiness.
  17. I'm writing a complete guide...I was going to post it next month maybe...
  18. Maybe a month collage with a few gen vs. rep comparisons as part of the quiz...some vintage...some modern. Maybe a month with some uber-Frankens...some uber-movements like Freddy's El Primero's Or...if there are some really good pics maybe a big watch table "mess" like that pictured at one of the more recent GTGs. There was a pic with a big pile of PAMs...it was quite impressive. Vintage...new...unusually large, etc. I know sticking "weekly" types of questions and stuff in the date portion of the calendar might be more of an issue for cost, as that entails not using standard calendar layouts and more of a custom print job. I have no idea what the cost difference might be.
  19. It sounds like a servicing issue. It could be that one of the gear teeth has worn down and that's why it stops at the same spot all the time. The Zigmeister says servicing >9 months from time of purchase will result in premature wear of parts and make part replacement necessary where a standard breakdown, cleaning and oiling was all that was needed. You have a couple options. If you can find a watchsmith to do a servicing...that will likely solve things. Otherwise...you can contact the vendor of your choice and ask for a replacement movement for your watch. AJS was selling standard 7750's for $120...which means collectors will likely charge $200 with the secs @ 3 complication. A movement swap will likely be between $50 - 100.
  20. If you can post pictures of the movement, we'll be better able to tell you if it's worth repairing the movement, or if you're better off to do a movement replacement.
  21. Yup...searching is a funny business. I find that I have to try a couple search terms...look for possible "more unique" terms to search on...try again and you might narrow things down more. It often takes a few attempts to ensure you've got your bases covered in your research.
  22. I missed this post before...great pics! I too am not a big fan of that lighter tan leather strap...the bracelet looks great in photos that's for sure.
  23. Check out this thread...Carrera thread on using TopSwiss.co.uk for Reps The OP has ordered a rep from TopSwiss who supposedly (according to their website) ships by Royal Mail in the UK. The OP's watch is enroute...coming from the Philippines. When asking TopSwiss about this...their response is included in the thread above...funny.
  24. That's quite a funny letter back. A Swiss factory shipping things via the Philippines?? Very funny. The company itself may well be located in the UK. At least their domain is hosted there. They've had the domain registered a little < 1 year. The odds of them dealing with a factory in Switzerland are almost next to nothing... Drop shipping is not necessarily a bad thing. A lot of decent dealers here have been accused of drop-shipping (to which they've responded no way)...and I've ordered multiple times from said dealers without issues. QC/QA can be a problem in some cases...so ordering from European based dealers like Eurotimez, Homer, etc for a few extra dollars can save a lot of grief and hassle and stress...but I haven't encountered any problems that couldn't be sorted out.
