  1. If I remember right...you only need to change 2 of the hands...the centre seconds and I can't remember the other...running seconds I believe but I don't have time to search right now. I'm not sure if the different formats of the 7750 make a difference on this though.
  2. Slevin and Moonwatch for sure. Slevin as it was one of the most anticipated reps ever...and the Moonwatch for being representative of one of the more important historical timepieces used so often in movies!!
  3. They don't if you ship express. For small items, Express can actually be pretty reasonable...and I've had extremely good reliability with brown...and they do a really late end of day pickup time for me which is great for last minute pickups as I'm at the end of their pickup route, so I can call in as late as 1730h and still get a pickup THAT DAY!!
  4. great idea...love it...Two Tone Sub from Rusty on Oceans 13...and a sun dial from Gladiator.
  5. Trusty doesn't have free shipping either...or included for that matter. I think he charges $35 for shipping while Silix is $28. Jay is the cheapest...that's why you buy from him...and that he says he will waterproof watches for free (sometimes) as opposed to charging extra and still not getting anything done as per Josh and Andrew. So, at least if I'm not going to get anything done...I might as well have nothing done for Free. HAH HAH. 24hrs is usual for response except on Fridays where it might take until Monday. Some people get ticked off at a particular collector for whatever reason...rightly or wrongly...Jay is reliable...just rarely punctual...so, good to have around...in case you want to try somebody new, or have burned your bridges with other collectors for whatever reason. If you want super fast service...go elsewhere.
  6. I just got an email update on an order from him 2 days ago...and wasn't expecting to hear anything from him until 4am Saturday (tomorrow). He's usually 24hrs for a response except he doesn't work on weekends so, depending on when you email, it could be 2-3 days for a response (Monday morning or early afternoon). He has slow response but his product is good, he's reliable, sends parts, is cheap and will stand by his products.
  7. From TO as well... USPS is preferred, but you will get charged a $5 assessment fee generally, plus GST+PST, unless the item is declared with a value under USD$25. UPS for GROUND shipping, would charge brokerage and only GST...and the brokerage was based on the declared value...so could be expensive. On express options, no brokerage is charged but you may pay taxes. The moral of the story from my experiences with UPS (about 100 packages) is, if it's light send it by Express or envelope if possible (flat rate). If it's heavy and cheap, ground is good!! I never use FedEx so I can't speak for that. I've never been charged anything on a rep watch...they just get left at the door...don't even have to sign for it...which makes for a great surprise when I come home from work. In Calgary...EMS required full signage at the depot for pickup (not the case in TO)...go figger.
  8. Hey...nice review...and pretty amazing 2nd post! Well done.
  9. Welcome aboard. You'll find this place a wealth of information. Look around and do your research and you will find what you need and more!! To help kick-start your research: By-Tor's Omega Review With 42.5mm PO Included The above link has references to other 42mm reviews which should mention their sources. As to a 42mm Chrono...I believe that would be fantasy watch, as I'm not familiar with a gen chrono in that size...only the standard 45.5mm...so you should NOT be able to find one. The usual suspects will have the 42mm PO though (non chrono). As you are a Noob...I would suggest Trusty or Joshua or now Watchmark who will be a little more expensive, but have the best service. If this is your first rep...do your research here on the collectors/dealers and read their reviews on what to expect in the whole rep buying process so you don't get disappointed by having what in the rep-world are unrealistic expections not being met. What the community here asks in return for all this good info, is that you post pics of your purchases and/or provide feedback on your experience.
  10. Sure you can...if you've got the chutzpah to back it up!! It's all about attitude and other elements of the package, and not necessarily a single low-end "tell" I think.
  11. I don't...I'm not really a car person in fact, but I can totally appreciate somebody who does the hobby properly, and uses the machine for its designed purpose. You didn't mention tires...yours look too suitable for city driving. My sister had Traction Kings but lots around her were using Fulda's I think...
  12. I've been reading lots of good reviews about the Watchmark service...including him meeting up with somebody who was going to China and giving him a tour. If he has it, and nobody else does, the odds are good it is a quartz model, and can be had for CHEAP!
  13. Lady V tries to maintain a strict ratio of 10 posts/watch or strap. So, every few posts, she's obligated to buy a few reps and straps. I would try and keep up, but I don't think the floors in my century home could take the added weight of that SS.
  14. Hey Lady V, That's something that is not differentiated enough I think, and a good trait to remember in the rep world - Quality vs Accuracy. When you start getting obsessed with accuracy or it can get very dangerous very quickly in that you start modding so much that your you end up with what is essentially a gen in an aftermarket case that cost you possibly a year of your life to complete, and a cost not too far off of the real thing, with nowhere the same level of resell value. With reps, I try to find the value point of getting the greatest quality and accuracy at the lowest price both financially and chronologically. So, if the swan neck is only aesthetic without function...it would not be worth waiting for. Or, if the swan neck option raised the price by 2x or any other high margin, and the movement was still an EASY tell...not worth it. BUT, if the swan neck movement was indeed a significantly better movement but possibly still a really easy tell...I would still do the upgrade because of the quality added, and low probability of showing the display back to anybody that had the know-how to spot a rep vs. gen, or would be opposed to the concept of a rep. Graham Chronofighter Oversized.
  15. You can use my post as a guide: Toad's Guide to Noobs Begins and Nymphs
  16. Thanks for the reference for Lonestar. I just ordered a light brown Imperator.
  17. Hah hah...ain't that the truth. "Feel confident in sending money to this vendor participating in counterfeit items with a fake name in China because thousands of people you have never met on a bulletin board say to do it" But...when you crack open the box...it isn't one of the drop-shipping QC nightmares...that feeling is gold...like climbing a rope in gym class.
  18. Yup...the first rep is quite exciting to get. Too bad it was a Rollie though. HAH. Genuine Rollies feel kind of junkie if you've picked one up for the first time after handling the monster watches like the Planet Oceans or big Breitlings...but the Trusty Noobs are as accurate as they get "out of the box"...just surprisingly light...but extremely close to the gen weight. The only real disadvantage to the Noob is really the Pearl insert which can be addressed by a new insert for $20...and just accepting the fact that Asian rotors can be a bit loud. The first rep is exciting...the speed by which they arrive when they come from Josh or Andrew...and how close they are to the gens. Wait until you get your first "super rep"...then you will really have your socks blown off...nothing like >1/4lb of SS chrono on your wrist!! Welcome aboard...research...don't take the hobby too seriously...and have fun...and then remember how close you might have been from buying a $1000 rep from one of the Scam sites by contributing back to this community by upgrading your membership, or providing feedback to others or new content of your own.
  19. It's going to be awesome when the work is done. Excellent!! I totally forgot about the font. DOH!!
  20. Ooooh...you got me. I have my motto to uphold though, that "You Can Get Better But You Can't Pay More". If only there was a cheap, reliable alternative that didn't need immediate servicing for the A7750...then the servicing issue and date wheel alignment issues would be addressed.
  21. I agree. The gen is nice in person...but in general, I find the Chopard's a little too "trendy" in their design for my liking. If you are looking at something for "the now", I would say it's good value...but if you are looking for something that's reasonably versatile for keeping your interest in the long-term, I would recommend something else.
  22. Great watch...and the AR of course is bomber. Your 6-o-clock marker looks a bit crooked though...or is that just my crooked head? Is the date wheel bad printing that obvious when not magnified 20x?? I plan on getting The Zigmeister to do the swap on mine, as the cost is not much when you're paying for the movement servicing, but I'm wondering if it makes that much of difference. I'm doing it more to correct the alignment issues.
  23. I agree about the bow tie. REAL bow ties are the only thing to wear if you are going to wear one...clip ons are...well...clipped on... There are some pretty slick contemporary tie-less options these days though...that rock-up the black tie genre...just watch any awards show these days ...especially something like the Much Music or MTV awards for Rock Star black-tie chic. For a more conservative crowd though...I'm still down with my Spitfire Chrono recommendation.
  24. As much as I like the Patek Calatrava, and think it to be a great black tie watch, I feel these watches are too much for the "I spend a lot of time in a tuxedo" crowd than for somebody more young and "with it". Bond wears the SMP or PO depending on the Bond version, and that gives the edge of somebody who is sportier but "can do black tie". I'm more in the vein of the latter, and for that reason, I'm going to mention a watch I think is under the radar of most people...the IWC 3717-2 white dialed Spitfire Chrono. 42mm but not too thick...no rotating bezel so not too sporty...on a black croc strap...dressy, but shows you have contemporary style, but a respect for tradition and roots. It says: "yes...I feel very comfortable at the Baccarat table, but not for long because I'm going to fly my Gulfstream out of here in a couple hours to go heli skiing in the alpenglow first thing in the morning" I tried this piece at the AD, and I tell you, the pics do ZERO justice to this item. It's extremely versatile...on brown croc, it says that you are ready to hunt the Nazis while you find the Ark, and on black croc it blends in with any black tie event that you are crashing using your high-roller MI5 legend. On SS bracelet...well...I can't say I like it on the bracelet.
  25. Great pics. I too like the last one especially.
