First rule of chronos with 7750 movements (Asian and gen Swiss) is NEVER to quick set the date between 7pm and about 3am...it can screw up the movement. This can be found in various tech links referred to in my Noob Guide, and in Zig's 7750 Guide.

Surprisingly not...and the gaskets didn't melt either!! I tried a lighter and took forever with no result...so I moved to the Big Volcano.

As others have said, the issue with paying for a Swiss ETA is that you pay the price, but have no guarantee of getting the product. If you pay for the Asian clone, you pay the discount, and know what you are getting. Odds are good, your watchmaker would likely not be able to tell the difference between the Asian clone and the gen article. That knowledge is found here, and is pretty specialized (not to RWG WIS's of course). If you buy the Asian clone, swapping out to a gen ETA is farely easy and cost effective (vs. the hassle of going Swiss from the 2813).

I was afraid the crown was botched. What's the best way to remove the trashed crown and preserve the stem? I know the allum route will dissolve the stem, and I currently don't have a spare stem. Would I just head the unit, and use pliers on the stem and the crown and try to unscrew it or is there another secret? Thanks for the advice and possibility of help all!!! Especially Ubi!!

Heh heh...just look out on the Speedy's as the subdial spacing is different from the gen...so if your boss is observant, he may notice this, so you'll have to have your answer ready.

Hi folks, I bought this as a project: SilverG's 6263 Daytona It has a Venus 175 / Lemania / Seagull ST19 movement in it and I was able to do a couple repairs to the thing, as well as the 6-o-clock subdial freezing mod and everything is working fine. HOWEVER, there seems to be a problem on the crown itself that it is not consistently "grabbing" the stem when you turn it. The threaded portion of the crown seems securely fastened on the stem itself, the compression spring part seems to work as well, but the crown spins as noted in the pic below: The pic is actually from a DG4813, but the crown looks similar (a rep Rollie Trip-lock). The spinning means it's difficult to insert the stem and difficult to wind. If I kind of "pull down" on the crown as a turn it, it grabs and I can get purchase, but I know something is wrong. Can this be repaired? If so, how? Or, does this require a new crown? Do you know if I can use a crown from a standard sub rep (I have a spare)? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

As a starter rep with low cost impact...the lite with white dial is great. If you are unfamiliar with watches with high end anti-reflective coatings, you will not be disappointed. The more and more time you spend on this forum, you will find many folks (myself ABSOLUTELY included) and perhaps yourself in time as well, obsess over little details that are pitched as HUGE flaws that 99% of the general population would have no idea to which you refer.

I think that would be fine dress watch. You could make it dressier by swapping out to a brown croc strap with a bit of varnish/gloss to it...then it would look dressier than the white stitch on calf leather.

Me being horolgically clueless, I have no idea what you were doing in the pics Zig...but I just loove looking at the pics. How big is that lathe? It looks smaller than a stapler! I've never seen a jeweller's lathe in person before.

Fleece jacket under coveralls, armoured gloves, perfect. The Balaclava was too hot and sweaty...the face shield was required as you can see by a few direct hits. Fun fun fun.

I haven't seen the rep of this one yet...but I'm thinking about it. I'm actually tempted more by the white dial version on bracelet. I saw the gen...stunning. It took me by surprise. It's such a great price. Gold watch wear is always a concern. If you're looking for an everyday wear watch...don't make it gold...go SS for sure. If you're looking for occasional wear...the gold should be fine.
