  1. Like the design or not, that Graham is one impressive looking piece. How do you like wearing it? The Milgauss of course, is awesome. Love the pics!!
  2. Hah hah. I have yet to journey down the path of Facebook. apparently I have many friends there or so they tell me...just haven't bothered logging on.
  3. You've been an amazing asset on this board, and I know I would hate to lose your activity here. I think anything you sell here would be backed by a reputation that you can easily refer to through past sales and members who have bought from you, even if the reputation system isn't there.
  4. There are some good $175 Asian 7750 reps WITHOUT the chrono movement too (Look for PAMs with the running seconds at 9 or 3 at a date module on the other side. Very reliable movement without chrono complications. I think if you stay away from the chrono movements, for <$150, you can do great. Don't forget Quartz ones as well like the Tag F1, or I've been thinking of a ladies Seamaster (needs lume on the hands though...there's just a hole in the ones I've seen. If you can spring for a few more bucks though, you can get some "new generation" almost super-reps. The dealeres have been working on getting some really nice cheaper reps out. Look for running seconds at 6 movements with the power reserve like the new Ulysse Nardin MMD for $175 on rubber, or the IWC Porto at just over $100. Rolex Milgauss with the 2813 movement is another. These are really good values I think. There are some amazing dress watches in the $100 price range too (I have a couple fantasy A. Lange & Sohne ones that are beautiful, and very classy). A good thread and reminder that high price tags aren't really needed to get a nice watch. I think I'll jump on the Ulysse Nardin MMD when it comes out in silver...for $188 on bracelet? Wow.
  5. From PM's I get, and some of the posts that go around, I can see that the more a place is a source of solid, technical info, the harder it is for someone new to post. That is where RG is in fact easier on a Noob, as there are a lot more "fun" less horological threads there, that are very noob friendly to post in. Lots of new members I find really feel they don't have much to contribute compared to the wealth that's here. Photograph quality here is amazing, and that can intimidate somebody who is new to photography, let alone reps and macro photography. New purchases are often critiqued as we often compare them to our current HIGH standard for quality reps, instead of remembering that flaws aside, low accuracy reps can in fact still be really nice watches compared to some ugly Nixon, or Fossil thing. These things can be intimidating to break into. I had to work pretty hard on some of my early posts to feel comfortable on producing a quality thread before I started my first topic here...and understand that for many, time, interest, perseverence or whatever, may not be there to do the same.
  6. I always understood RC Tritec to be the only place that sold gen SL outside of re-sells from private individuals. Zig uses a small oiler to do the dials...says it spreads like snot. That should be an indicator of consistency to aim for at least when mixing the stuff up.
  7. It does indeed look very similar to a standard pocket watch or 6497-2 movement. The bridgework looks like a PAM 210 with the 2 gear positions flipped. The jewel positions are even simliar.
  8. Thanks...and the links should be working too. Welcome to RWG. There's lots of great info here. We hope you enjoy your stay and are drawn to being an active member posting your own experiences.
  9. Exactly like Mad Dawg said, you DIY to learn the process, knowing that you might botch a dial or 2 in the process...so go to a pawn shop and ask for the cheapest POS with something similar to what you want to work on, and go at it...movement working or not. See what consistency works, what doesn't, what tools work, what don't, etc. I've got a dial ready to experiment with it too...but have so far limited my DIY to packaging the watch and mailing it off , all by myself.
  10. Here's RobbieG's original post: Gen MMD Pictorial If you look at this pic, the hands look dark: ...but if you look at this one, you can see the colour is actually pretty close on the rep...as has been said many times in the past, it's all about the lighting: ...and the solid caseback and silver badge: After looking at RobbieG's, I might spring for this one if it comes out in the silver dial. For a $188 rep, I still think it's pretty nice.
  11. Good job. It's a nice looking piece. I think though, I'm partial to the black/green one.
  12. I think the white looks good. I don't know if the blue is too light or not, but I think it looks nice. The caseback I'm not so worried about, in terms of accuracy. Remember folks, this is a $188 watch!! It's not a $300+ a7750 "super" or "less than super" rep. It's not much more than an el-cheapo Rolex 1675. How many people even know what Ulysse Nardin is outside of RobbieG? How many have seen one and handled one to know about the bronze vs. silver badge, or which have blue rotors and a display back vs. solid back?
  13. I have to use IE6 at work and performance is slow. With all the stuff they do behind our firewall, performance on the forum was slow before, but now really slow with the new s/w. It really limits what I can do. My post count has been down lately because I have a number of non-watch related projects on the go and haven't had time like I used to. As well, I haven't been buying as much either. Mind you, there are still 3-4 reviews I have been meaning to write up but have not gotten around to as well. For me...life has taken over a little bit, and the as much as I like the new interface, the performance means I can't accomplish as much as quickly. Searching has been a little harder as well. Thankfully the Admin team did fix links so that saved a chunk of time on my guides and reviews.
  14. There are a number of factors that will influence success. How comfortable are you working under magnification (a loupe)? How comfortable are you painting? Are you planning on doing more lume work in the future? I agree that a set of tools will cost you at least $60. Like JG said, a cheap handpuller will only cost about $15, but you'll need a good set of screwdrivers to remove movements, a loupe, maybe a case opening tool (or tape, or whatever), Rodico, non-magnetic tweezers, etc. Expect your first job to be completely botched...so don't experiment on the dial you want to keep. SL orders will do about 3 dials, and a lume job on the dials costs about $100 USD with shipping. Hands add on another $50. Zig has stated before that learning to lume with gen Tritec SL is the most expensive but less frustrating as the product has a much easier consistency to work with. I've seen many a crappy lume job. Whether or not you get success also depends on your tolerance level for quality. Good luck.
  15. Welcome aboard. There is lots to read here. Lots to learn, and lots of folks here to help you out. Have fun.
  16. Great to have you back in shape for posting these pictorials. This is starting to warm on me. Great stuff.
  17. Awesome stuff. Yeah, what R can do to these Asian movements is nothing less than art. What he can do to a dial? That's a step above. I have a PAM in the mail to spa as we speak.
  18. Yay. Thanks Admin/Mod Team!! I fixed the straggler links that didn't get updated from the crawler and updated my signature links as well.
  19. That is awesome...and the second best recipient of it around...after that guy in Ice-land after all, but he probably has 10 of the known 8 copies. Truly an awesome gesture, and well deserving.
  20. Just beautiful...photos, avatar...oh...and the watch.
  21. No. Mechanical watches should be serviced every 5 years...though many will be fine after many years without service, to do so risks damaging parts which can be very expensive to replace. The lubricants gum up over time...that's the issue.
  22. I was sooo tempted to buy Eunomians DJ he had for sale to do a 5513 project. It was an AMAZING deal for the 1570 movement and the bracelet. Wow.
