  1. No you don't...engagement rings don't weigh almost half a pound of macho mass AND tell the time. Congrats. Read the Noob Guide linked in my signature. There's a series of links in there about chrono's, care and maintenance of mechanical watches, etc.
  2. Good stuff. It is a looker for sure. I agree...IWC all the way. I'm thinking the ceramic one would be a great next one...the TG!!
  3. Looking at mine in my hand...I can't see it as crooked. It seemed that way in the pic...but in my hand I can't see it. If it is, it's not so bad that it bugs me, or that I can even notice for that matter.
  4. I would love one...but too big a price tag for the amount of times I would use it. Fun stuff!!
  5. Ditto...the glow wakes up my 2 year old daughter some time...seriously. I laugh and cheer...my wife hits me. I love it. And...I know the blue lume is not accurate...but that's what I wanted. I tried to order a gen one at the AD and they told me 9 months for ANY IWC special order, and a 12 months + for the LE CD series...so I said screw it. The blue is amazing...and Zig did his usual stellar work on it. Something to note as well is that I can only imagine how hard it is to get an EVEN layer of glow without great difficulty because the thickness of lume needs to be extremely consistent. Applying lume within the lines is only half the battle, you also have to apply it EVENLY across the surface. I don't know how Zig does it, but it's amazing. Did I say I love it already? And yes...on a boring late night and I have to work late, it is fun to charge the sucker up, turn out the lights, and read a novel by the glow of the watch. That's my blue one Zig did...fun fun!! What's never mentioned is his painting of the lume on the numbers AROUND the rotating bezel (not just the big white part). Holy Crap...no space to make errors...you would never know ANYTHING was painted on it...until you turn out the lights and it glows like an elf sword when the orcs are near. I don't know how he painted those numbers...incredible.
  6. The Zigmeister did mine with the blue SL lume. As lume application is done on top of the existing dial, there will be a bulging effect...this is part of the desired look on PAM sausage dials, and I can see possibly distracting for some with the AT because of the inner bezel. I like it...however, my recommendation would be if you were to get it done, to request a matte binder instead of the usual glossy binder. Most people want the uniform glossy look as that's what's found with the sausage dials on the PAMs. The AT dial itself is glossy which makes sense to match with a glossy lume binder, but at certain angles of certain light the gloss does make the lume application more apparent. With most viewing the "lumpiness" is not noticeable at all. The Zigmeister's application is incredibly smooth and clean...unbelieveable I think...and the end result works very well for me. In the dark, the glow is really quite something...I love it. I'm looking at the watch on my desk in the sun at an arms length and a bit away, and you CANNOT discern at all, any raised surface. I hope this helps.
  7. I'm talking about the orange one sorry...it's the one to the RIGHT of the black Galapagos in the pic above...note the white/silver subdials.
  8. At my house...I have to check the toilet, or the toy box. We have sticky fingers in my household...sometimes they steal watches...sometimes it's just messy popsicle eating. The vintage ones are tough, as there's usually so much that is wrong with them..."aging" being an added complication. Crystals are often in need of replacing, and that can be tricky as the rep cases often don't take the aftermarket Clarks vintage like tropic reps. Pearls are usually in need of replacing with expensive vintage tritium ones...crowns are the wrong size, bezels aren't brass or have the wrong profile, datewheels aren't silver, etc, etc...tricky business. The GMT IIc I think is a real looker and BT's advice on the subject is second to none.
  9. Does anybody know which of those links is best to get some good replica Viagra or Cialis? I also like the "nebraska sex truck". Yikes!!
  10. I still think the 2006 CD is the highlight of the AT series...but that's me. The Slevin is a nice size...but the CD on rubber is pretty comfy. The watch is easy to read...and with Zig's blue lume applied, the coolest thing glowing this side of some 1950's Nevada desert nuclear testing fallout.
  11. It's true...not very accurate...but for $88 you don't expect much and close "enough" on many accounts.. A good deal too, especially if it's good for swimming.
  12. Hey Robertk, According to HERE...the big difference is this one supposedly has a real green sapphire crystal...as opposed to a green band used the last round. I thought your version had the green crystal...what's your take?
  13. Always good to have an awakening R...wow...that's something else.
  14. As said above, remember that with a big publicity show like this, you will get A LOT of people who have never stepped in a soup line showing up to take that photo because of the "event" nature of it. Not to say, having worked in a shelter before that there aren't folks in there toting more expensive phones and shoes and receiving handouts than I was sporting.
  15. So many choices. You could also look at DVN's Ebel 1911 quartz auction on this forum. With a Sub, Daytona and PAM, it sounds like he likes sporty watches so I would probably either keep in this theme and go the dress watch route only depending on an expressed need to fill this void. The IWC is an excellent choice for this...but with the PAM and the Sub, he may well like the B&R as a something different...close to the scale of the PAM in terms of visual chunkiness but with a modern feel.
  16. The lume is nice...even if it's not true SL...the fact that they got orange glowing blue is good. This is supposed to be the green sapphire one and not the green BANDED regular sapphire right? He mentioned that in his post here, but the site didn't specify that.
  17. Sounds like a good plan. My work usually is Datejust country more than sport watches...that's probably the most popular watch I see...that and some Tags. Look at Lanikai's and I think By-Tor's review of the BK Sub...I think that's who did them...excellent review by some great photographers and folks with eyes for details. That should seal the deal for you. I wish I could pull off the 6.75...coolest caseback around...just doesn't work unless your wrists are much bigger than 6.75". The Carrera Day Date and the Carrera Date are both excellent pieces as well. Good luck on the journey...it's fun. When all's said and done...if you find you found the info you need, consider upgrading your membership to ensure the info you want in the information is still around. Cheers.
  18. I'm assuming your Zero Point Energy cell is operational...
  19. Yeah...the subdial colour on the blue is a big one. That's funny that the blue dial also has the "Schaffhausen" in the wrong sized font relative to the date window. The word lines up with the edges of the date window on the blue, but extends properly PAST the window on the black.
  20. BK is a little bit of a different story as he is a modder...and not a dealer directly (in other words he's not dealing with the factories the same way that the Gang of Four are, or any of the others are). His modded watches are well modded watches that you can see from the reviews of his releases. I don't know if he does servicing...but I think he does lume work and that's generally been considered good. Bear in mind, with his watches, he addresses what some consider glaring errors in the reps...but if you just order a basic good rep, you might find these glaring "errors" in real life are not worth spending the money on...when all you're doing is moving it from say "90%" to "94%". Maybe it's worth it for you...maybe it's not...you have to decide for yourself. I always think about doing some of the mods when I see the reviews...but when I hold the watches in real life, I realize, when the largest real dimension is <5cm...a "big" error, is really small. Do you want to spend the money on 1 really accurate modded watch, or 3 really good reps? That's the ultimate question. Most would say "do both"...but if that's not in the cards or your collection strategy, decisions have to be made. If you read the Noob Guide linked in my sig, there are the articles on movement servicing. Zig's recommendation is the 9 month mark....that's close to a year...and as long as a "Fossil" or "Tommy Hilfiger" gen in the same price range as a good rep would keep your interest so it may not be worth servicing the rep...just switching to the new piece. Good luck.
  21. I really love the DiModell Imperator strap...the best moo-croc I've seen...beautiful...and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this one...I have it pictured in my Spitfire review.
  22. When it's all said and done...there will be AR on this one...I'm sure of it. This will not be part of their $100 cheap series...this will be a high priced, well made rep...I'm pretty sure on that.
