  1. Beautiful watch. I wouldn't overdo the vintage effect on the dial or hands though. The gen is only 5-6 years old. I am at work and so I don't have anything in front of me but if the gen was actually T Swiss T that would imply that fabulous nuclear creamy color. :)

  2. He's back.

    Ziggy-

You are going to regret offering to take on another one of those "fabulous" 7750 Daytonas with running seconds at 6. Someone should tell all these Rolex fanatics (okay, I like Rolex's too) to focus on the pre-2000 Daytonas. There is a reason why Rolex did not move the running seconds until they produced their own in-house movement. :)

  3. It certainly is plausible. At some point the wholesalers will gear up to make a large order which some of our dealers should get access to. I do caution folks that Aspire listed the "fourth generation" 1950 and still lists it with no price and no availability. But you never can tell. :) I would have expected Josh, Sean or Angus to have showed up with it first.

  4. The comment on Rolexes I agree with. Most people who wear them are just wearing them as part of a uniform. It is interesting that when I wear an MBW vintage people who care actually notice. I find that no one is hunting for the Rolex rep. Nobody cares. The one other point I think is that in many circles watches are one of very few forms of male jewelry. It is nice to be able to change the jewelry. So there definitely is a peacock factor. But the getting laid or wanting to be attractive to the other sex still factors in fairly strongly.

  5. I have noticed that an increasing number of folks are modding their better reps. I am an avid modder (with Ziggy's help) so I think it always helps to share information on what mods people are doing as it helps everyone (who cares) improve their watch. If you think this is a waste of time don't bother posting. I will go first:

Breitling Chrono Avenger - New movement and dial. Picked up pristeen Swiss 7750 movement from great guy on Ebay Germany for $200 and OEM dial for $10

7753 Daylight - Finepics datewheel and new crowns when available. Superlume as well. Cannibalizing one defunct Asian 7750 in older case to mount Panda innards into it.

2893 GMT - Improved cyclops being offered in general discussion. New crowns when available and hoping Finepics elects to move forward on new datewheels. Lume.

2893 Power Reserve - All the above plus PVD thru Palp from OEM supplier to PAM

MBW's (Ziggified Comex and Tribalized Red Sub) - Standard CG's, springbars, case rounding already done. Adding gen crown and tube. Doing a little lume work on the Comex.

Modding items I have heard talked about but am waiting to be available:

    - Improved PAM crowns and crown guards (both chronos and non-chronos)

    - 2893 Datewheels - I am still begging Finepics

    - Cyclops for PAM's (those I know are coming)

Does anyone else know what is on the horizon or have interesting resources?

Cheers to all, and nice to see everyone coming over.

  6. I find the betting pools more interesting than the tournament itself. I went to one of those schools where even the atheletes have to be literate (theoretically). I don't follow college basketball but responded to peer pressure and ponyed up the $25 per card this year for the first time in a few years. I have no idea who I picked but I am in second place after the first weekend. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

But my better story was during my first year at work out of college. Once again, knowing nothing about basketball I was pressured to buy a card. I think it was $50. A guy from the mailroom saw me staring at the bracket trying to figure out who the heck to pick. He wanted to play but didn't have the dough. So I put up the money and he made the picks. We came in second and split a grand. People at that form are still wondering how I won. Lastly, one of my friends is a trader at one of the big investment banks. This year's bracket cost a thousand and the winner picks up something like $50,000. I suspect the P&L for that trading floor is going to be way off this month. They are all trading their positions among themselves. :)

  7. Finepics-

I am happy to be fiscally helpful. :) Aren't we still waiting on the pricing and timing from Archibald's contact though?

On the issue of 50 versus 100. At 50 pieces, I am happy to step up for a few more to take up the slack and then resell at cost. I know Ziggy, Finepics, RBJ and other modders will be bombarded with requests. I would simply sell them at my cost plus the extra shipping cost. At 100, someone should be making a modest profit as that is a capital outlay in the $1,500 - $2,000 range in excess of what we are signed up for. My math may be off though. By the way, I am not volunteering to do this. But whoever does should make enough money to buy a high end rep. :D
