Man, we really need someone like The Zigmeister who knows all about the 6497's to come in and write a good article on the movement. The article should include things like the differneces between Swiss, Asian, and real ETA's. When I say differences, I mean the way to tell which movement is which and if all the parts in your watch are what they claim to be...ie Swiss, Asian, ETA. The Kif,incabloc, and whatever other kinds of shock protection, bridges, balance wheels, blued screws, dagger arms, dimpled regulator arm wieghts, you name it...hit it all. Something solid to use as a dictionary so to speak.

Gulp.....I.....I......I love you. Holy Sheet that watch is huge (or your wrists are tiny) I NEED that watch.

I am trying to get a handle on what a genuine ETA 6497-1 should look like. I have read several posts on this topic on another forum I found, but they just seemed like a bunch of people (like me) trying to sound like they know what they are talking about. Ofie has a very poor picture so I couldn't use that one. I figured since The Zigmeister is gone for now so someone has to step up and take a swing at this (hopefully with his attention to accurate articulation of fact). Can someone show me a pic of a real swiss ETA 6497-1. From what I read, there are many ebauches out there and people just put any ole mix and match parts together and call it genunine, Swiss, ETA, Unitas, or whatever. So you may think you have a genuine ETA, but you really don't. The movement I have appears to be real and was claimed to have been real. It has the ETA stamping under the balance wheel , the words= seventeen 17 jewels and swiss stamped on the bridge.......but the shock protection looks completely differnent that my other two 6497s. The claimed real ETA has the type of shock protection that looks like the clip holding the jewel in place has three sides that hold the jewel down, while my other two Pams have the two reversed paranthesis clip holding the jewel securely in place. Also my claimed real ETA does not have a slot at the base of the dagger (metal disk around the shock protection) whereas the other two Pams have the slot at the base of the dagger that kinda looks like you adjust something with this slot using a flat head screw driver. Lastly as my poor picture may not show well, the regulator arms have a small wieght on them. The wieght on my ETA is dimpled. Are these tell tale signs my ETA movement is not a genuine ETA?

An open letter from Ziggy to the members of RWG.
894tom replied to RWG Technical's topic in General Discussion
I used to listen to a talk show on the radio every day. The show was riveting. It was two guys, one who was the side kick and one who basically led the show. The "Jersey Guys" for those of you that may know the show. Anyway. Craig, the leader, left the show and the radio station. The radio station kept the program "Jersey Guys" going at the same time with a new leading man. I don't listen to the radio station anymore. Not the same. I will check on RWG from time to time to see if your back. Come back soon The Zigmeister. -
I'm with you.....thanks for the reply. Ruby will now become the Zoro of the replica watch world...always a mistery....always talked about as legend....But never spoken of. GEEZ...at this point, I don't want to know Ruby's info....I might be tracked down and killed with all that valueable information.
-
MmmmK...who is Ruby? Maybe he wants to sell a watch?
-
Ok, but I already have a PVD Pam, I want the Titanium look and I hear that a good glass bead blasting gives similar looks. If this is not the right place to send the watch, how can I get this process done?
-
How much to disassemble, bead blast a Pam, then reassemble it and ship it back to me? (No PVD)
-
MmmmK....the watch cost about $250 right? With all those mods it sounds like I will be near a thousand buckeroo's right? Yowza Yowza, guess its stil beats the $3400 smack down you gotta withstand to sport the real thing....Who's Ruby anyway? Wanna check it out.

I bought a silicone divers wrist strap from Panatime.com. The strap came and looks perfect. I put it on and wore it for about three days. I was constantly adjusting the position of the watch body on my wrist trying to get it comfortable. I even let it out enough that the watch could spin around my wrist. On the third day, I noticed my thumb was numb. First thing that went through my mind was....oh no heartattack. Then I realized that Superman cannot get a heart attack...LOL. Anyway, it turned out the strap was always trying to return to its straighten state and was constantely pressing on both sides of my wrist. The nerve on the inside blade of my wrist must be right in this spot which caused the numbness. I emailed the guys at Panatime.com and they are great about customer satisfaction..hard to find this kind of business anymore. I will be buying all my straps from this company here on out...yup they have every kind you can think of. Anyway, what gives...he told me he has sold thousands with no complaints. Am I a freak of nature, are my nerves located in the wrong spot on my wirst? Anyone else get the same problem with a thick black silicone rubber dive strap. The one I got looks very similar to a Bell & Ross dive strap.

I was watching Wild Hogs last night and noticed all the actors in the movie are sporting expensive watches. At the end of the movie, the bad guy tells all the guys to lose thier watches...wow, even the actors were sweating those nice watches. Are these prop or wardrobe watches all real or are they replica's? Martin Lawrence is sporting the ole Pam. What other movies besides Casino Royal have this kind of gratutitous wrist watch displays in them?

I have checked high and low for a Super Avenger. I have found the cheap ones...you know $118, $159, $169. They just look fake You know what I mean. I am looking for a good one. I would prefer the Swiss 7750, but you gotta buy it from a trustworthy guy becaue if not, I feel they may just stick you with the Asian one and charge you more and call it Swiss. I have read some threads in reference to the newer Asian 7750 and the claims are that the Asian movement is perfectly fine. Any advise on which to buy and if an immediate service is recommended on the Asian model? Anybody know where I can find this watch?

Wow!!!!....the details.....its all in the details.......sure enough, the Davidsen has the larger balance wheel. Now, does the speed of the ossilation play a differnce in the long term durability of the watch? One might assume there is less travel or friction metal to synth ruby contact with the slower motion. This should result in better long term life span. Ok... how about the tinny sound..ie tick tack tick tack...? instead of the confident tick tick tick sound Davidsens movement is giving off? Is that because the Asian copy needs to be oiled and cleaned? Again, both seem to keep good time. The asian copy has been recently tuned/adjusted to + 7secs a day by my local watch repairman after an unexpected opps I did . He said it was clean and needed no work......but this is the same guy who didn't know what a 6497 movement was ....lol . Ok, put it bluntly like this, did I get a cheap Asian copy of a cleaned lubed 6497 movement from Davidsen or a better quality low end lubed genuine Swiss ETA movement? No matter what, I like the overall sound of the Davidsen. Just sounds so much more confident.

Ok...I know I am not a dog, or some other scientific listening devise, but I really can tell the differnce in the way my watches tick. As many of the regular reader have heard, I have an asian copy 6497, a Swiss copy 6497, and a Davidsen 6497 all enclosed in a standard 44mm Pam case. Looking at the movements, the average person would think they should all sound the same and operate at the same speed. They all appear to have the same parts...the Swiss copy does have different shaped crown wheels, rachet wheel, and swan neck though. They absolutely don't (at least to my dog licensed scientifically proven hearing..LOL) sound like they operate at the same speed. Is this possible? When I watch the balance wheel..the Asian copy appears to be ossilating much faster. The Swiss copy is very close to it, however it seems a little slower. Both tick very fast and have a light tinny light feel to the ticking sound. Davidsen's 6497 appears to tick much slower, but sounds sure of its self with a even (tick tick as apposed to tick tack tick ) clean sharp ticking sound. His movement also winds very nicely, which is very similar (but better in feel) to my Asian Copy. Is this because the movement is an ETA or just because it's been serviced? All three watches keep good time. (honestly, I have not had the chance to check the Davidsen for accuracy because the base model has no seconds hand, but it has kept good time for the last 3 days while in my possession.) Can anybody give me any validation, or should I just take them all to my local watch shop and run em on the ole computer to get their timing ie 18,800 21,000 17,500? Which speed movement should last longer given the same amount of wrist time?
-
I typed it wrong. take out the "to" after "insulting" and before "that". It should read "insulting that" not "insulting to that." Just wanted to express that Davidsen may feel insulted after he put the time and effort into presenting RWG with a photo of his hard work only to be shown other pictures of what other members feel the dial should look like. Thats all.

When in grey mode ...most of the time, I won't wear a watch at all. BTW, I have a Gshock..I won it in a poker game, so it has some sentimental value, however need I produce exhibit a again?(pic of Davidsen watch)
-
The movement is flat....although it kinda looks domed in the pic...its just the angle.

You are very good at reading a watch or person. It is my work watch. In my line of work, I don't want anything flashy in appearence or reflective for safety/tactical reasons. The movment (as I requested) is an unmarked Swiss 6497 movement which can be viewed through its exhibition back. The movement winds much better than my asian copy and even my swisenese copy. I has a very light easy wind that progressively tightens up but is never hard to turn. The sound it gives off is totally different than my other two. The sound (of course) is hard to articulate, but it doesen't seem to have the (tingy?) (reverby?)like metal sound the other two give off while running. Very interesting to me. I'll tell you a secret and if you repeat it I'll deny it......I actually listen to my watches for about a minute before I place them on my wrist....LOL...don't know why...LOL....just like hearing it run. The sound of the watch reminds me of the incredible skill and mechanical genius that it took to place this small complex engine onto my wrist....amazing to me.

Holy Cow, I am stunned by the beauty of this watch. This is a beast!!! Black beauty, simple, clean lines, bright lume....Oh Oh Oh....Ahhhhhhh!!! LOL. This watch just pushed my Speedy into the "I'll wear it later" box. Davidsen's communication was excellent. He must have been annoyed by all my emails, but he answered every one. He designed this watch to my specs perfectly. Nothing overlooked it seems. I can almost read in the dark from the glow of the C3 lume he gave this watch. Can anyone else see the same beauty in this watch that I see?

Well......I just got back from shooting at the range with my speedy Moon watch. You know the Lamania movement. Honestly, I forgot she was no my wrist. I shot about 200 rounds of a 40 cal. and 10 rounds from my 12 gauge shotty. No differnce. Yippee Ki Yay Motha Fcker!!!!....I cleaned the watch...including washing under the faucet after I got gun cleaner on it, and she took on no water............yippee!!!!!! Just a comment.
-
Actually, I think its kind of insulting to that you give pictures to Davidsan....Hes not just coming up with this prototype off of a whim. GEEZ
-
What doesnt work? ..........#1 rule in mechanical watches.......KEEP AWAY FROM MAGNETS!!!!!

Excellent idea.....I have to go to another site and sync my watch. Guess its a good thing in a way cause it lets my Ram drive load up something other that boring ole RWG.CC. My computer time does not show the seconds....Hello!? Make it so powers that be. Poof. I know its not that easy, but it is a great idea.

Uh huh huh huh....you suck Bevis......He said Farter....Uh huh huh. Can I have some of what youre smokin? LOL
