  1. Ok....I just got a rep Speedy with a handwound Lamania (like/claimed) movement......who knows for sure what it really is. I also have a rep Pam111h swiss movement and a rep Pam112 Asian movement. The Pam asian movement winds very easily from the start, is smooth in movement, sounds crisp, but gets progressively harder to turn as it winds up. The swiss Pam 111 is harder to wind from the beginning and then gets fairly hard at the end before it stops. I actually like the way the Asian movement winds better than the swiss. Then I got this Speedy. It winds totally different, very nicely.....and never seems to bind up, even at the very end. I know what your saying.....its a differnet movement. It is a pleasure to wind each time...just feels great....and sound really nice too. What gives? Why the vast different feel from watch to watch? Any tips on improving the feel of the wind in the morning? ie...cleaning, oiling, filing down, sand blasting, bashing on an anvil...LOL
  2. I just bought a PVD from Davidsan. I am looking forward to the watch. You say Highlights.....I say charactar.
  3. Thank You The Zigmeister...I trust you........afte what your said, I am not gonna mess with the balance [censored]....just the crown wheel , rachet and blued screws.
  4. Yup....gonna pull out the dremel and polish them up real purdy like......then put em in the Davidson all shiny and new!! Blued screws outta make her look nice too.
  5. So they are interchangable......you just recommend taking it to someone. Besides looks......will the proformance of my watch be improved or more accurate with the balance [censored] switch? How about the switch between the rachet and the crown wheel..is that possible also?
  6. I purchased a Pam homage watch from Davidsen. (it's the PVD one) He says it is a swiss movement. The movement he used highly resembles my Asian copy 6497 in a base Pam rep I have but his is without the panerai's stamped all over the bridges. Both have the squared edge crown wheel and the rachet wheel and no swan neck. I also have a Swiss copy Pam 111h. This watch differs from the other two movements in that it has beveled edge crown wheel and rachet wheel and has a swan neck. These are obvious differneces and there may be others. My question is....assuming the Swiss is not the real Swiss used in a Gen but a Asian copy of the Swiss movement, I wanted to know if I can swap the blued screws, swan neck (bridge and all), and CW and RW from the Swiss Pam 111 to my Swiss Davidsen. If so...any tips....especially with the Swan neck balance wheel hairspring? Perhaps just some of these mods are possible, which ones can not be done?
  7. Whew....I guess thats it. I was going to put the Zenith movement into a Pam case and wear it and, like suggested, keep the pocket watch case for a reinstall sometime in the future if need be. But a good point was brought out....(this is a great forum) the movement does not have shock protection. It stays as it is. Who is The Zigmeister...where is The Zigmeister...is he really that good? P.S. I am fairly convinced it is not a hidden treasure so I was really not beating down Ebay's doors to sell it. Leaving it as is just sounded so boring because I would not want to carry it around and scratch up the mint case and crystal. It's just that I love watches and I could have had a watch that had a personal meaning to it, so that was what I was leaning towards until the excellent point was brought out to me.
  8. So I have this pocket watch from my grandpa..its a Zeinth made around 1920. Grandpa died when I was 7 so I was only as close as a 7 yr old can get to an old man who smells funny and gives you cool gifts at Christmas. He died when I was 7 and I got the watch then. Had it in storage all this time and just found it. It is mint....even the crystal is perfect. I opened it cause I am always curious. Mint. The brass movement shines like new and contrasts perfect with the beautiful winding gears (polished silver) Anyway. I am torn. The best I can tell, the watch ill pull in on the way top end is $500 on the Bay. Do I A. Sell the watch...B. put it back in storage....C. transplant the movment out and put it into a rep Pam case and wear it all the time? Heres what I am thinking...A - I wont strike it rich even if I selll this watch for top dollar., but I could buy some more cool Reps. B- I dont have kids and dont plan on it...but maybe one day I could give the pocket watch to my kid. C. I would love to sport Grandpops old pocket Zienth on my wrist in a PVD Pam case with exhibition back. What to do...what to do.....
  9. Oh yeah.....mine was doing this for a good reason.....my nephew was playing hit uncle Tom with a plastic Bam Bam bat while he chased me around the backyard. Uncle Tom just blocked it once......with his watch. Gotta love kids.
  10. The sloted screw the hairspring passes THROUGH is the regulator. Cementing it to the spring, will not allow regulating of the watch... I know sounds like common sense, but I knew I was in over my head so I took it to the only local watchmaker I know. Maybe I misunderstood him. Is the spring cemented to the other arm?
  11. I agree, happened to me. It's a one second fix. The hairspring is effectively now shorter causing the balance to spin way off. If you listen to the watch, it should sound like its ticking much weaker and faster, but the balance wheel is spinning very slow. Hairsprings are very tricky, if your not sure, take it to the shop and he can fix it in a minute for about 5 bucks. Thats what he charged me.
  12. I took my Luminor Base to a local watch shop after I goofed it up. Yup, got my hands into something I shouldn't have. I noticed a screw very loose on the bridge next to the two main winding gears. I was a couple of threads from falling out. I figured hey, I have a spanner wrench and an eyeglass screwdriver, I can do this. So off came the back, in went the loose screw, then my eyes when to the regulator arms....hmmmm. Maybe I can adjust the timing. (The watch is -8 seconds a day) Opps....that nifty hairspring spring really is easy to pop out. LOL. Anyway, I called the watch shop and asked if they work on a 6497 movement. The watch repair man asked me what that was. Uh oh. Not a good feeling. I explained to him what I did and he told me to bring it in. He looked at it and told me the hairspring should be cemented into the slot on the little slotted screw on the regulator arm and the spring needed to be cemented back in because I knocked it out. Should I trust him due to the fact he never heard of a 6497 movment before?
