  1. Let's put it another way... Who would I want to rescue me if I were in a position that needed rescuing? I think the the US, the British or Israeli Special forces, in that order. Why? Well I'm an American so it's what I know. Who would I send to kick someone else's ass? The Israeli's, then either the US or Biritish. Why? Cause the Israeli's would just go in do the deed and get out, no fuss no muss. Bang bang I'm done. As an Asian American, yes when I'm abroad I often see the "ugly American" and am very ashamed of it. The attitude that the American way is the only way and that he/she deserves every accomodation available to them and then some, and that every country or culture should be the same or learn from the American, who has no real culture by the way that I can think of.
  2. Ahhhh..... perfect!!! I've never seen that before. I actually thought it did something. So this would be a relatively easy piece to replicate?
  3. What do you mean? I have * G-Shock for field work (the old square looking one) * Seiko Monster for the office and daily beater * A replica PAM090 for more formal occasions * A few replica Panerai and Bell & Ross (I kind of got tired of my Bell & Ross)
  4. Just curious, would anyone buy a Grand Seiko over a Rolex or Omega or whatever in the same price range? http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/REVIEWS/AquaTe...mpared.htm#Tour
  5. It looks doable except for the depth meter probably.... I first sniffed this one out on a Philippine magazine called Calibre http://www.calibremagazine.com/
  6. As in many goods, the price that is set is the highest that "the market will bear". In the context of genuine Panerai's, or any luxury good for that matter, nothing is overpriced. High prices (or pricing patterns) are purposefully set so that these items can not be had by just anyone. In the context of replica watches, we are in this forum because we can't afford or don't want to pay the price of a gen, for whatever reason. I love my replica Panerai's, but I'm just as happy with my Seiko Monster. Would I buy a Gen? Maybe if I was making enough money that the thought of the price would make me cringe.
  7. I think everyone here wears a watch for the "sake of fashion" to some degree. Why else would we be so concerned about how a watch looks or how closely it resembles a gen? True, the history of Panerai may be a bit overblown but remember we are talking about replicas so it wouldn't matter to me at least unless I owned a gen. I myself am a fan of Panerai designs. I think the designs are generally beautiful but simple. I also like Bell & Ross watches. They have a sort of simple pretty ugly design. Just my opinion. BTW this is a great place to learn and read about replica's and genuine watches too.
  8. I bought one of these in the Philippines just recently. The original asking price was PHP3,500.00 (about $85.00 US) but I countered with PHP2,500.00. She asked for PHP2,600.00 really quickly so I assume my offer was still a little high. I took it for the PHP2,600.00 which is about $63.00 US. It's a decent timepiece but not a great replica. There is no helium escape valve, the crown is a little too big and the wrong color, there is barely any luminence, and the date wheel color is wrong and a little off. It keeps pretty good time on pace with my PAM90 (with Japanese Auto). I've had it about a week and it is still less than a minute off my G-Shock. Regarding the noise that some people mention, yes the winding mechanism is not as refined as the one I have in my PAM90 which is a smooth whirring sound. In this unit it is more of loose swinging then a ratcheting sound when the mechanism winds. The ticking is a little loud too. I like it though. For the price I'll take another in a different color.
  9. Thanks for the replies. I put my post in the Photography section because I know technically the watch isn't that great but at least I get to work on my photography. I'm already researching for a nice 111 and then a Flyback Regatta. Even while waiting for this one I was already looking for my next one.
  10. I'm really glad to have found this forum. Unfortunately I ordered this replica before I found the forum and didn't know any better. It looks great though I'm not sure how good of a replica it is. So far I've noticed that 1. The shape of the case is not like the real Submersible 2. This is a Japanese QUARTZ movement and not mechanical 3. The chrono's at 3 and 6 work, the one at 9 not sure. The third hand not sure either. I don't think the pushbuttons work. I don't think the chrono functions on this rep are the same as on the genuine. 4. The rubber band is nice but soft almost like a silicone type. The buckle is very straight. 5. It's huge! 6. Relatively cheap. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks
  11. I usually prefer to set the main hands at local time of destination or next stop on a flight with layovers. I'll set the GMT to my home time. I think it's very useful especially when there is a big difference in time from home time and local time. It can get confusing when your watch says one time zone but your body says another time zone. ... and I always travel with 2 watches.... dunno why but it's my habit. One on the wrist and one strapped to my carryon.
