  1. We find people are at their lowest ebb about 4am
  2. We are. Wait till it gets dark.............................
  3. Excellent stuff Freddy! And some interesting music related artefacts in the background, do you own these also?
  4. I do check ebay on occasion but so far nothing has come to light. Apart from that I'd more or less given up and assumed it was a waste of time, particularly after Seiko couldn't be bothered to respond. I have pm'd Offshore with the case number and so on, so I am feeling hopeful again It's really quite amazing the depth and variety of knowledge on this forum, I appreciate it more and more as time goes by.
  5. Thanks Freddy, but I've been told by a professional that the parts are obsolete and no longer available and had the same response by online parts organisations. It was last serviced about 6 years ago, in theory by Seiko, and hasn't been worn for at least three. I would guess I could probably drum up a crystal somewhere (it is oblong) but I'd have to remove it to get all the dimensions and I'm reluctant to do that at this stage. It's not a watch I'll be wearing again, but I would like it to be in reasonable condition. I will try the Seiko references you've posted.
  6. OS? Sorry don't recognise that reference........
  7. Don't count on it. I have a 28 year old Seiko which was a wedding present from my wife which obviously has a lot of sentimental value. Over the years of use and wear the crystal has become so scratched you can't see through it and the bezel is broken. Now I hardly expect Seiko to carry parts for a 28 year old watch, but thought they might be able to help when all other possible sources drew a blank. They didn't even respond. So much for Seiko.
  8. Funny enough, my wife just said the same thing in a different context. We have a litter of puppies at the moment, now 6 weeks old, and one of the new owners emailed her this morning to say she was coming round this afternoon to see the puppy. Note, not is it OK if I come round. It was just fortunate that my wife had to order something on the internet or she probably wouldn't have checked her emails till this evening. She emailed back and said she had an appointment this afternoon, would Thursday be OK. Received an answer saying"We'll be round at 3:30pm on Thursday", again not is it convenient, just we will. She is now muttering about the lack of manners of people nowadays, and if the woman wanted to come this afternoon why didn't she phone rather than send an email she had no way of knowing would be read, blah, blah. I think I will need to have a word with this bloody woman when she comes round about her manners, after all I'm the one that gets it in the neck!!
  9. Freddy, stuff like yours just shows me how much I have to learn. Hopefully it will spur me on to better efforts! Beautiful job.
  10. I had a classic case of this. Sent out some parts free of charge, having first asked the member to check dimensions (which he didn't do). I heard nothing for four weeks until finally the following "Are you sure this is correct, I can't get it to fit". Needless to say I didn't respond. Maybe it's me and I'm old fashioned but if someone does me a favour, even if it's as simple as answering a question I asked, I will always say thank you, and in a timely fashion. As others have said this will not stop me helping out another member if I can, but I feel sad that the occasional person has lost touch with common courtesy.
  11. The case hasn't arrived yet, but I will report back when it does. If my head doesn't explode waiting of course
  12. Beautiful job! I hate to ask how much that cost in total, but I bet it was considerable
  13. As easily done as said Sir - http://www.cousinsuk.com/PDF/categories/29_ETA2801.2-ETA2836.2.pdf
  14. I got mine from A-and-E with a best offer of $200 which seems like a bargain. Though I just missed one with a gold bezel auctioned by jjwwatches with no reserve which went for about $210, an even bigger bargain, I was only just outbid too. Unfortunately the auction ended at 3am my time so I had to set it up to snipe, but just didn't put a high enough figure in. Stupid.
  15. Wow, those pics have whetted my appetite! I love the stick dials. I really can't wait to get started on mine! Small point, while doing research, think it was Stilty but not sure, I read that the fourth (seconds) wheel needs to be changed which makes sense if you have a higher cannon pinion. It's a simple enough job on the 2824/2836, and I have a 2824 in bits right now so even easier, am I right in thinking it is necessary?
  16. Funny enough, I'm doing exactly the same at the moment, 16030 case and Stilty ring on its way! I've PM'd Stilty to ask what 4th wheel, canon pinion and hour wheel I should use for a 2824-2, parts are available from Cousins UK it seems. Seems to be the fashion at the moment to do a DJ Franken!
  17. Well done! Hard work but I'm sure we all appreciate it. Lots of new stuff to investigate...........................
  18. Actually The Zigmeister says about the 2836-2 (as fitted in the OP's Datejust) and 2824-2 - "No problem on this model for quick set on the date, you can safely set the date anytime of the day."
  19. Thanks Cornerstone for your PM, I've now successfully become a supporter!
  20. ...............while signed in, clicked the upgrade button from the upgrade page, told me I had to sign in as that function wasn't available to a guest, signed in again, clicked, error, signed in, clicked, error, until I disappeared up my own a$$ Could one of the mods pick up on this one. Thanks
  21. For anyone interested, I've answered my own question. Yes you can fit a later clutch and winding pinion from the 2836-2 and use the later stem. The keyless works is quite different but the only difference in the clutch and pinion is the hole in the middle. Another marvellous save by Brightight!!
  22. "Nope" just means "no", I wasn't calling you a name. I think you're missing the point. Yes the 2824-2, 2836-2 have the same stem. This is not a -1 or a -2 just a plain 2836. I can't understand why you doubt my word, but if you insist on not believing me, look at the stems on Ofrei - --------------------------------------------------------- Stem Helicoidal for ETA 2802, 2804 and 2836 $3.75 401/731 -------------------------------------------- Stem For 2801-1, 2804-1, 2836-1 If your movement is a dash 1, then this is your stem. 401/843 -------------------------------------------- or the parts listings for the 2836, 2836.1 and 2836.2 on Cousins UK website (www.cousinsuk.com). They show CLEARLY that the original 2836 (and 2802, 2824) had the same stem, which changed when it became 2836.1, 2824.1 etc. And this is quite apart from the fact that I stated I measured the two stems, they are different. And before you ask, the main reason I haven't ordered from Ofrei, is it is going to cost me in the region of $50 to get a $3.75 stem to the UK. It would be cheaper to pick up a second hand 2836-2 on ebay. So indeed...and now?
  23. Nope they're not. I have tried to fit a 2836.2 stem physically, then measured the difference on the square section, and there is a difference, then checked the parts listings which show the early model had a different stem to the .1 and .2. I wouldn't be asking otherwise...........
  24. I have an early 2836 movement (this is not a dash one or dash two!) and have broken the stem. The same stem fits the early 2802 and 2824 apparently. Cousins UK show the part as obsolete Does anyone know if I can use the clutch, etc, from a 2836.2 and convert it to use a 2836.2 stem? (I have a horrible feeling the keyless works is different though I haven't stripped it yet). the only apparent difference between the 2836 and 2836.2 stem is the later one has a larger square section. Alternatively does anyone know where I can get one? Ofrei seems to have them but by the time I pay minimum order and shipping rates to UK, I might as well buy a new movement!
