  1. According to the seller its authentic. Despite my better judgment, I may just believe him :D On the description, He states....

"Engraved on watch back is 'Classic Yachts Challenge 2005' along with an OP (6635) and a BB (1148126) which as i understand it, prove its authenticity. "

The only way that I could be even more certain this is a gen was if it had THIS WATCH IS NOT A FAKE stamped on it

  2. When I first decided to get a rep there was no doubt as to which one I was going for. The SMP Chrono was it! I set about my research and discovered BY-Tor's comparison between the SMP Chrono and the Tag Link Chrono. I considered the Tag briefly but I was right back to the Omega. I have just been to an AD to have a look at the Aquaracer and the Carrera but while I was there I spotted the link. It didnt take long for me to dismiss the Aquaracer, it just looked too dated compared to the other 2. I have no come to the conclusion I NEED A TAG LINK CHRONO!!! And so the quest begins again. Oh and when I was trying on the watches I tried to slip my Omega into my pocket but the dealer spotted it, "Lovely watch sir, may I?" I passed it over and he remarked how nice it was before handing it back. AD test passed :)

  3. I really struggle to get my head around some peoples behaviour. My next door neighbour hasn't spoken to me for about 4 months now. Why? Who knows. He has cycles of over friendliness followed by months of ignorance. We have a shared driveway and recently I must have parked over his side slightly as now EVERYDAY he parks his car right up to the middle of the drive. I know it is childish but I am going to retaliate. I sing in a band of a weekend and it is time for the bands bus to start parking on my drive me thinks (right up to the middle of course) Why cant we all just get along?

  4. It's not a super rep by any stretch of the imagination, subdial issues, inaccurate tachymetre bezel, thick hour markers, case shape, dial printing...

I know you're looking for a cheap quartz, but if you like this watch I'd really recommend an auto. There are some really nice quartz reps out there, the Tag Heuer Golf for example.

I do prefer the auto but obviously without laying out $250 plus I would only be left with faux chronos. I do intend to buy the 7750 in time but I think this might make a nice stop gap. Thanks for pointing out the issues with the watch, exactly the advice I was looking for.

    Thanks

    Paul

  5. Paul, there is a dealer "UK Watches" on RG selling this watch...and the best part is that he is asking ppl to make him an offer on the watch. You might pick up a bargain here.

Thanks mate, I have just emailed him with an offer.

  6. Hi All,

I am now looking to get a cheap quartz rep (this hobby is getting expensive) and have been looking at the Carrera. I have found this rep on CQOut

    Carrera quartz

I know the strap doesn't look too good but I can get it with the rubber strap. I am not very well up on my Tags so I thought I would let you guys rip this one apart to give me more of a clue :) I have bought a watch from Tony before so I am not worried about the dealer. I would be grateful to hear what you all think.

    Thanks

    Paul

  7. This is insane. makes me want to just start buying good replicas and selling them as gen. Seems to work. I'm not really surprised how uneducated the consumers are, but should they have to be this alert? In a world with such exquisite replicas, I guess you have to be...

I wish someone would report that seller? I found the page but it's in Polish or Swedish or something.

EDIT: From the auction page: "i can garantee that this is authentic!" Priceless. Looks like he does sell other gens though.. which seems odd.

This rep isnt even a decent rep. Yes, it is enough to fool somebody who knows nothing about watches but as soon as they compare it to their friend's watches they will soon find out they have been scammed. Higher end reps may never be discovered until it is service time :(

  8. Thats the exact same rep I owned. I sold it a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't bad just the bracelets on the asian movement versions irritates me, they're too square and don't have that nice curved shape (much like the girl in my avatar ;)) found on the Seamaster bracelets.

From what I know, the ETA version of that rep isn't made yet, not sure if they will however, the original SMP is still a very popular rep, even though the quality has worsened :p

I have that watch, cost me

  9. Interesting.

So if I challenge a parking ticket in the city of Chicago by asking for photographic proof (which I'm quite sure there is none) I can possibly get off?

I really appreciate your advice, this is such a problem in Chicago. I've become a bit stressed out when I use a parking meter, I've had such bad luck.

I have just had a quick look on google but cant find anything about the parking laws in the USA. We do have 1 customer in the States (Spokane) so I will make a few enquiries on Monday and let you know what I find out.

  10. Sturb, do they really take 3 photos when ticketing?

I've seen them giving out tickets and have never noticed that.

In the UK they now have to take at least 3 tickets, one of which must be taken with the ticket on the vehicle after issue. They have to take pics of the vehicle committing the offence, the street furniture (sign/line/meter etc) that indicates what the offence is and the ticket on the vehicle. If you appeal any parking ticket that doesnt have 3 supporting photos (unless it is a CCTV issued ticket) you will win the appeal right away. It is interesting to see how different authorities view parking enforcement. For example in London it is 90% about making money and there are literally hundreds of wardens on duty in the middle of the night but then the county of lancashire uses parking enforcement mainly to keep the streets clear of obstructions.

  11. In Chicago they've gotten VERY aggressive in handing out the parking tickets within the last 2 years or so, the city needs more money to pay for all the beautiful plantings, I guess.

They have these parking enforcement flunkies roving around with the handheld tablets, just waiting for your meter to expire, spitting out HUNDREDS of dollars worth parking tickets ever hour, they get them off welfare, pay them minimum wage and they make the city an awful lot of money.

You show up 2 MINUTES late to your meter and you have a $50 parking ticket - same fine as if you parked and blocked an alley or on the sidewalk (WTF???)

I just got a $100 ticket for parking within 15 feet of a hydrant in my neighborhood, which I DIDN"T, I was a good 20 feet away but try to prove it.

I've had to give City of Chicago coffers about $800 in the last 2 years in parking fines, makes me sick to think about it.

I certainly see your point and in some cases it is very valid. In this country there are very strict rules in place to TRY and stop unethical ticketing eg: you can only issue a ticket to a car with an expired meter after a minimum of 5 mins observation, each ticket must be supported with minimum of 3 photographs therefore if you were not parked in contravention they cannot issue to you (if you have the sense to appeal) Also we have just introduced differential charging which means the fines are more relevant to the offence. I have met hundreds of parking attendants and I can say they represent a pretty broad section of society. There are nice people, nasty people, intelligent people, stupid people. Just try to remember a lot of them are just trying to do their job the same as you or I.

  12. So... you get lots of hate mail in your company? :D

Nahhh, we just write the software so we get away with it :) The Traffic Wardens get all kinds of abuse though. Most of it though is unwarrented. I mean the amount of people I hear complain about getting parking tickets is ridiculous.

Why did you get a ticket?

Because I hadnt put money in the machine

Oh right, whos fault was that then?

Well I was only there for 5 minutes.

  13. The company I work for write the back office software for Parking enforcement and we also provide the hardware and software for the handheld units that the Traffic Wardens use. We had a stand at the exhibition. The exhibition is for people involved in the industry and has all sorts of stands. Car park products, parking meters, ANPR software companies, handheld companies. There are so may different elements of the industry. Oh and as expected, the nicest watches on show tended to be on the wrist of a Bailiff company director :(

  14. I have just spent the past 2 days at a Parking exhibition for work. Dull I know but what can you do? On the first day I went armed with my newly purchased seamaster red rep. Not a great rep but passable none the less. After walking round the other stalls during a quiet time on ours I was amazed at the watches people were wearing. I saw 2 SMPs (one medium sized) and a SMP Chrono. Loads of Tags and a few Rolex. I also saw a lovely Breitling although I am not sure what it was as I am not well up on them. The next day I thought I had better step it up and opted for the trusty SMP Chrono. It was a boring couple of days but seeing all of those nice watches you dont normally see made it that little bit more bearable. Oh well, cant wait till next year :)
