  1. Very nice pix. I looked hard at the rail master but for me the Aqua Terra was nicer, I liked the lack of numbers on the face. I like my all silver AT so much I'm thinking of picking up a gen mid-size with a blue face.
  2. Thanks! That was a lot easier than I expected
  3. I just got a new rep and am having a problem with the clasp. I can only open it by griping the braclet from underneath and pulling, something that won't be possible once the size is adjusted. I was going to try a small amount of oil (WD40?) to see if that helps. Good idea?
  4. I was in Zurich over Easter and couldn't resist picking up my first gen. It's a Constellation, 18k gold face and bezel (but not case). From post purchase reading, it seems I picked a very ordinary movement, caliber 1111. It has a dark brown leather strap though it's not the original Omega one. It looks lovely though. very classy. I'm a little concerned I overpaid so was wondering if you guys could suggest what it is worth? Not that I have any intention of selling it, but still. Also, the power reserve doesn't appear to be great, it's been stopping ~6 hours after I take it off. It has a display back and the movement looks clean and in good order to me but I'm far from an expert. Do I need to have it serviced?
  5. The long pin that connects holds the bracelet to the watch is starting to slip out on my cheapish (~$135) Nautilus. The pin appears to be plain so there's nothing to hold it in place. Any suggestions how I can fix this?
  6. Thanks lanikai. I emailed about that tool and it was suggested I'd be better off with the manual tool for the job, like this: http://www.tickintimeworldofwatchtools.co....-kit-1060-p.asp There's a full list of tools related to the task here: http://www.tickintimeworldofwatchtools.co....celets-84-c.asp Any suggestions which is best to get?
  7. Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of grabing one of these tools to do the job: http://www.watchclocktools.co.uk/shop/inde...;products_id=15 http://www.watchclocktools.co.uk/shop/inde...products_id=120 Will either of those do the job?
  8. I'm very new to this so if I'm missing something you think is obvious and think I should know please point it out anyway! I just received this watch from Silix and it looks very nice. Unfortunately I can't adjust the bracelet as I can't get any of the pins out. I have a pin removal tool from Narikaa which pushes the pin part way out but I can't get it all the way. I've tugged as hard as I dare on it with a pair of pliars to no avail. Any suggestions?
  9. I picked up a couple of reps I'm having issues with (an Omega DeVille that I can't remove enough links from and a PP Nautlius with a little fleck of something on the face I'd like taken out) and need to track down a rep friendly watchmacker in Central/South London. If anyone knows of one please post or PM me if you don't want to post their details on the forum. Thanks!
  10. A bit of reading suggests that on an Omega, I should be able to negotiate 20-33% off at an AD. Does this sound realistic? Is it different between countries (e.g. US, UK, rest of Europe). Can people give a guide (based on experience) of what I might expect on other brands? Oris is one I'm particularly interested in. Thanks!
  11. Is there a guide anywhere to what tools are needed for what tasks and what should compose a basic set? I've been looking here: http://watchtools.co.uk/watchtools.html which gives me a decent idea, though I have no idea of the quality of the items (or the quality I will need). I don't intend to do anything advanced, at least not at first, but it would be nice to be able to get into the watches and make bracelet adjustments. Thanks!
  12. I feel silly asking this, but having never studied French I'm stuggling with quite a few of the names and don't want to look like a fool at an AD. I wonder if I'll get a consensus on this. So, how should these be pronounced? Alain Silberstein Alange & Sohne Anonimo Audemars Piguet Baume & Mercier Blancpain Breguet Breitling Bvlgari Cartier Chopard Corum Dewitt Ebel Fendi Franck Muller Gerald Genta Glashutte Gucci Hermes IWC Jacob & Co Jaeger Le Coultre Longines Louis Vuitton Maurice & Lacroix Movado Omega Oris Panerai Parmigiani Fleurier Patek Philippe Paul Picot Piaget Rado Roger Dubuis Tag Heuer Vacheron Constantine
  13. Joshua's are 41-42mm wide and 10mm deep. He also doesn't have either of the colour schemes I like. By-Tor's guide suggests this is actually one of the best reps so I assume I'm missing something.
  14. I'm having a really hard time picking which rep of this to get. I think I want the silver with gold bezel and silver face though the all silver is tempting too. Andrew has the gold one with double deployment clasp but it's not a display back and it's 12mm deep. Paul and Silix have have what appears to be the same watch, the gold is more rose colour than yellow, there is a display back but it's a single deployment clasp and 8mm deep. They are all 38mm diameter though I'm concerned that this might not be accurate as I just bought a DeVille Chronometer which was advertised as 38mm but is in fact 40mm and as a result is a little too large for my wrist. As far as I can gather, a gen has a display back, double deployment clasp and is 11m deep. Any suggestions which one to get?
  15. I'd really like to get one of these in silver and blue as reviewed here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=55528 Unfortunately, I need it in the standard rather than jumbo size. Does anyone know of a dealer who can supply a high quality one in the normal size?
  16. I received my watches a few days ago and thought I'd give an update. The Omega is nice, well made, impressive overall. Unfortunately, the 38mm measurement stated is not accurate, it's actually 40mm and thus looks a tad large on my wrist. The AP is also nice, size is accurate on this one. However there isn't quite enough flexibililty in the bracelet so it hasn't curved enough at the end of my wrist to sit right against it (I measured, my wrist is only 6"). The other problem is that the mechanism for keeping the bracelet closed isn't quite big enough or isn't aligned correctly so the watch won't stay closed. I emailed Joshua about this and he responded within minutes. I supplied pictures of the parts I thought needed changing and he has already despatched so hopefully this issue will be resolved once those arrive. I'm starting to think that with my small wrists I may be better off sticking to gens as it's very difficult to get watches that actually fit me! I'm still pondering ordering an Aqua Terra from silix prime though and maybe a constellation double eagle =)
  17. I've just bought the Omega and AP from PC! Hopefully they will be here by Christmas and I'll like them. I can't believe I just spent that much on two reps! I'm in the UK btw guys
  18. Thanks for all the replies and advice. From some of the links it looks like the AP from PC would be a good buy. For the rest, it seems I need to do more research!
  19. Hi all! I've been looking into reps for a few weeks now and have made two purchases and am thinking about a few more so have many questions! I bought two watches from Andrew: http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...;products_id=62 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=793 Andrew was great to deal with, answering emails quickly and dealing with a couple of bumps along the way. The watches themselves are a bit more variable. I am not at all impressed with the Breguet. It seems more like a toy than a good rep, looking very cheap. I can't see me wearing it at all so it was rather a waste of cash. The JLC I'm much happier with. Although far from accurate, it's a very nice piece, looking and feeling well made. One thing that does confuse me though is that it's supposed to be an automatic but I have to wind it every 36 hours or so despite wearing it all day. Is this normal? Now, I'm looking at purchasing a few more watches but don't want a simliar result to the Breguet so please share your experiences with me. The first watch I'm looking to buy is an Omega. I have small wrists so ideal size for me is 36mm, though I can wear anything from 34-38mm happily. Jos seems to have a good rep around here and one of his Omegas is appealing: http://www.pc-80108.com/omde10007-white-di...8242-p-980.html Does anyone have this model? Any comments? I also like one from silix but the fact that I can't find a match for it on Omega's site is putting me off: http://www.silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1444 Next up is a Audemars Piguet. Two choices appeal to me but they are different sizes and I'm struggling to judge which is the better rep: http://www.pc-80108.com/ap10025-royal-auto...242-p-1652.html http://www.pam111.com/product_info.php?cPa...products_id=413 Finally, I'm thinking of grabing one or more of these from Andrew, any comments? http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=1573 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=491 http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=151 Sorry for the huge first post but I have a lot to learn!
