Interesting observation - AP ROO Date position gap

Recommended Posts

I always had the impression, and it has also been discussed on this forum before, that one of the tell tale signs of a REP AP ROO is that the date is too far to the right, and that there is a gap of around 1mm on the GEN between the date and the rehaut, while the REP has no gap at all, until I saw this auction photo on the Bay.....a F series AP ROO Rubberclad;

This is a photo of the GEN (look at the date, it is all the way right close to the rehaut!!)

I first thought it might be a rep until I saw the non-aligned crown and pushers, an indication that this is a GEN.

And here are some photos from our REP dealers.....the date is also all the way to the right, next to the rehaut

And finally here are some photos of a few GENs - see the gap?

So it seems, depending on which series, some AP ROOs would feature a gap while some does not.

Not that this little detail bug me but just thought I share this little interesting observation with you all.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I would say that watch in first 3 pics is NOT gen - probably position of crown and pushers look gen-like because of angle of photo. Look just at size of hour and minute hand tubes on this thing, thickness of print on 6 and 12 subdials, and of course position of date window. AFAIK, all rubberclads still have 2326/2840 movement, so chance is very small that position of datewindow would be significantly different on different series.

....and further more to stress the fact that the watch on pics #1-3 is rep...look at the poorly made screw-heads on the bezel....do you really beleive that AP will have such a watch pass QC? Look at the cut in the screw....it runs not straight but diagonal :huh:

Anyway, thanks for pinting this out....

I suppose it's GEN, bud they budly mounted the bezel after a not official repair or service.
