What is the best way to flatten - polish a cannon pin?

As the title says, which is the best way to flatten and polish a cannon pin.

I can't find any tutorial on how to do this.

Are you holding the minute wheel with pliers and grinding it, or is there another way?

Do you polish it with a dremel tool and compound?

How do you get rid of the sharp edges after sanding it down?

please enlighten me.

I asume that you are referring to a PAM/ETA 6497 cannon pinion? If so, why would you want to do this....? I find it very hard to spot a difference between a gen cannon pinion and a replacement ETA high canon pinion. If there is any, it is only visible with extreme macro side-by-side comparison. While the pinion is a delicate thing to mod, there are many other flaws on the average PAM rep and they are visible to the naked eye. So if you want to improve your PAM, I would try dial, CG, lume, movement and case first before attacking such a miniscule part.

Shure it's for an PAM ETA 6497 Cannon Pin,

and yes I've done superlume (only to sandwich dials), crownguard pin mod, modded my cases to the pre-V screws....

So I know what and how to do delicate work on watches.

I'm just looking for guidance, from some more experienced members than I am.

And I want to do this, as this bothers me, you know how anal we rep-fanatics can be

I cannot remember seing a post about this before. I think your best option is to ask either The Zigmeister or Francisco for advice. Good luck.

meanwhile I've found a way which is really easy:

-remove the cannon pin from movement

-insert the biggest collet into your dremel tool

-use the collet to hold the cannon pin

-now use your sandpaper of choice (I had some 800 at home)

-turn on your dremel and put the tip of the canon pin onto the sandpaper

-grind it down until the pin is flat

-now remove the cannon pin from the dremel and polish it

-finished, you have a flattended and polished cannon pin!!!

I'm going to put up some pictures the next time I'm going to do this mod.

No i think we are on about a canon pin and your way sounds good, in the past i have held the canon pin in a modded set of hand removers , flatende it with emery board and polished it with the dremil,
