Angelus Movement On The Bay

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting it - it looks interesting. As you say, it's not a C.240 but nice nonetheless! Do you reckon it'd be a lot of work to fit to the right dial - I'd got a PAM 203 project in mind, but moving the second hand is going to be expensive.

I would not even attempt it with this - you will have all sorts of problems, it's not straight forward even with the right 240 movt.

What are the problems, specifically w/ this movement? An antique store near me has one of these for almost free....I was thinking about picking one up, but not if it's going to cost me the price of a real 240 to make it work...

Yes, what is wrong with an Angelus 8-days movement? Is it not possible to put into a PAM case? Can hands be bought for it ? I'd be happy with a non-PAM dial just for that movement :D

Er Chronus - there is nothing wrong with an Angelus movt!! In fact everything is right with an Angelus so long as it's the right one - cal 240 and you can find one - they are rarer than rocking horse [censored]. Most of the Angelus 8 days travel clocks are the cal 190 which are clock movts and are so thick they would not fit in a watch case and too large a diameter.

The 240 came in 3 versions, 1 has an alarm and is key wound (no good) but another has a stem wind so can be used (but with the alarm still in it) but the 3rd type which is the proper watch type movt has no alarm and is stem wound. There are a few of us here who have something a bit like that!!!!

If you just wanted an 8 day movt to go in a closed back then there are quite a lot to choose from and all would work if their external dimensions are right. But with all these things it's not just a case of plopping it in and away you go - there's usually a lot of fiddly work to be done.

Yup nothing wrong with an angelus 8 day. You just need to get the right angelus 8 day!
