Chronus Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 I was originally going to get a PAM127 rep, but I got thinking with all the problems with the current watch. No sapphire crystal back available (the other ones won't fit this rep), and the correct front domed AR-coated sapphire crystal has to be bought from davidsenjpn, as well as getting the cannon pinion fixed. This will all add up... maybe half the price of the RXW MM20 I think. Now with the RXW watch, it is a more accurate reproduction of the watch the PAM127 was supposed to be based on. It has more of the cushion-type case with the correct curvature, good sandwich dial luminosity and no problems with cannon pinions. It is also accurate in that it has the anti-magnetic properties of the original watch and big numbers and similar hands. I think it also has a domed sapphire crystal and closed case back like the original. It comes in a presentation box with straps and a screwdriver and seems much more accurate. It is also water-resistant and serviced and tested through quality control. Now, I'm wondering, should I get the PAM127 rep, or save up for the RXW ? I'd like a PAM with the engraved movement as well, but which other PAMs have this that I could get it in? Is there a Radiomir black seal with that movement perhaps ? And finally, where can I get the RXW ? Thanks for everyone that helps!
Guest Teedotyyz Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 I'm no expert but Andrew's 127 has a sapphire crystal back, AR coating on a domed crystal and super lume. Not sure about the cannon pinion as it is hard to see in his pics. Maybe someone who has bought one can comment on that. As far as the RXW goes, I think they are quite rare (although a member did have one for sale on this board awhile ago) and they can run upwards of $1,000.00 http://www.trustytime.com/index.php?main_p...products_id=578" target="_blank">Trustys 127
chris5264 Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 And finally, where can I get the RXW ? It seems like the last available are gone. I'm totally upset I missed it, I swear the night I sat down to order was the same night they were no longer available. U can always get them used, but I might wait for the next production since the new price is usually cheaper than used. Anyway, I've been in that position myself, mm20 or a fiddy? I ended up with two fiddy's and sold them. IMO, the size of the markers is too small on the fiddy. I guess I ended up buying two of davidsen's mm20s. Now with the better lum, this will be pretty close to an rxw.
Finepics Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Chronus you have been smokin too many drugs man!! The 127 is not an RXW whichever way you look at it!! The RXW could not be further from the 127 if it tried. The 127 Panerai is a limited edition watch from 2003. They made 1950 of them, it is modelled on the 6152 type watch that Panerai made in the 1950's for the Egyptian navy and hence called the "1950". So the gen (as you should well know by now) is the 47mm case with the G series movt, a display back and domed sapphire crystal. Who cares if the caseback crystal is mineral or sapphire so long as it is see through. All of the 127's that are in the $250 + price range have a sapphire front crystal with an ETA modified PAM G series movt, they are one of the most accurate out of the box reps but need a lume job a cannon pin fix (plus Davidsens hands) to finish the job!! An AR coat is an optional extra but for the price the 127 Fiddy is still a lot cheaper with all the mods than an RXW (which is not a fiddy but a stylised fiddy that is 3 x the price).
Chronus Posted August 26, 2006 Author Report Posted August 26, 2006 Read the following information at this RXW link. It talks about the differences between the PAM127 and the RXW MM20. The other thing I'm thinking is to get a PAM217 if I decide to save up for a RXW. I bought a PAM127 with the new working swan-neck movement, but I tested the front and back crystal and found they were mineral. I used an electronic crystal tester which gave definitive results. I returned the watch and got a refund. The way I see it, getting a PAM127 and then upgrading it with the following: Davidsen PAM127 AR coated domed crystal = $85 no back crystal available, only the mineral crystal that comes with it cannon pinion fix relume (close to $100 with the current exchange rate) Davidsen's PAM127 hands. It all adds up to $500 or more I think, and that without a sapphire crystal back. Any thoughts after reading the RXW link ?
