FGD panerai vintage dials

question on vintage PAM lume?...regarding tritium lumed dials - did Panerai use the same color mix of this lume or are some T dials lighter/cremier than others?...i tend to see some difference in various models...some creme, some yellow...or is this just the nature of tritum - does it change color with age?...

for example - am planning to send my new PAM 026b from marinamm20 to Z for relume...found some pix on watches24seven.com of a gen 026b "T" dial...the lume definitely looks more creme than yellow, IMO...

i think it depends on the age of the dial, and the expose to sunshine.

also i have seen macro of gen Tritium Pre-v dials, and it looks like that the metal/paint colors the tritium.

there is also some good info on the subject here

my link to you

but another issue, it seems there is different Fonts for pre-vendome and vendome/richemont pams's - i guess it is a big tell tell on the rep pre-v dials ?

Hey Jesper -

do i like it?!?!...absolutely, my friend... :drinks: love the look - i mounted it on the rubber strap - same as in the gen picture above...hoping the 117 comes soon... :good:

i'm gonna send it off to The Zigmeister for re-lume...so the timing of this post was great - as i'm trying to sort out the coloring for the job...personally, i tend to like the lighter/creamier tritium color than the yellower color...but thought i'd try to understand it all before it get done...balancing what i like with what the gen had...

so to all - are there difference shades of tritium depending on model and year?...i assume tritium ages yellow with time?!...it's tough to tell by looking at gen pix like theones in the paneristi link

Rob, i too are looking forward to the 117 :drinks: hope that danish customs havent fallen in love with the package.

the next PVD watch i want - i really want to achive a combo of these two pictures

Grainy, yellow/orange'ish with discoloration of the Tritium on dial and hands - really love it

Wonder how to achive this.

but i guess the biggest problem is to find a good dial to build upon, like the FDG dials, i think it needs to be engraved indikators and numbers, so Z could fill up the holes with tritium lume.

R it depend largely on the lighting source for the pics also..in strong artificial lighting the patina look can appear white as does your pic of the gen.,, may be flashed used on that one.. I would just trust Ziggy' judgment on the colour. he has "seen and handled" the genuine too..

here is a pic of a genuine with flash.. the lume looks lighter in colour

A pic of my Ziggy lume FGD dial.. in natural light.

A little more light

I would just leave it to Zig....even the gen tritium lume will have a chameleon effect in different lighting... Ziggy's mix for colour reacts the same way .. and what I like is that it's not a strong lume when charged.. very faint.. I don't want it to glow like C1-C3 in the dark..

as always, thanks, Lani!...similar advice from DL...i asked Z to do whatever he felt best...

re: tritium lume and patina...the gen 026b/T dial was made with tritium in 1998, if i'm not mistaken...curious on how quickly tritium ages...am glad Z's mix is fainter charged...i'm also glad that the hands and dial will match...

much thanks for the info and convo on this topic...
