cougaree Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Any thoughts (in comparison to the gen)? It's almost very centered on the case. I've never owned a gen of this sort, so I have no idea if this is even close. Thanks for your comments!
SEleven Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 I was expecting a question on the crown-case spacing But yeah, looks quite centered to me.
cougaree Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 I would do nothing, but it's definitely good to know if it is or not. Is gen Pam's crown centered or bit off? Thanks!
babola Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Not bad actually. There are far worse around like some of Getat/Jackson and recent ones from DSN, but yours is quite good. Edited May 5, 2010 by babola
Mickey Padge Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 It is a homage watch, it doesn't have to look like a gen, that's the whole point!
cougaree Posted May 6, 2010 Author Report Posted May 6, 2010 You are right Mickey, but having the crown not centered kind of bothers me... I'm one of those guys like perfectly symmetrical things. So should I assume the answer is yes, the genuine Panerai have centered crown then?
cougaree Posted May 6, 2010 Author Report Posted May 6, 2010 I guess I've found the answer to my question. See picture below. The original patent shows the crown in centered around the crown guard.
babola Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 That was the original CG design drawing used to file for a patent. It had however not much to do with the reality, even the watches made before and shortly after 1956 had a crown/CG design that's closer to the current and contemporary design. That drawing is a good source, but really just a mock-up of the 'real' thing. The crown on a pre-A to F-series sits just a slight bit higher than top of the CG,barely noticeable without detailed inspection. On the G-series onwards as well as pre-V models the top of the crown can appear even a little sunken or lower than the top of the CG, depending on an angle of view since the pre-V and G-series historic CG flares slightly out from the case up. Basically, don't sweat these things as they're not worth sweating about, as I said in my post above - you're good to go, just plonk a nice CG on it and enjoy it!
