Hi guys, I was just reading the post regarding the $697 ebay purchase of a tropic crystal.

Why is it called a tropic, that sounds very exotic.

Thanks much!

Very good question... I am not sure, to be honest. Technically, the 'Tropic' crystals are the crystals without datemag, and the 'Cyclope' crystals are the ones with. However... All Rolex acrylic crystals are termed Tropic as it's just easier to group them all under this description.

I do agree though... Tropic does sound very exotic, and very intriguing. Rolex has, and has always had some great marketing people...

Thanks for replies guys!

OK, let's make something up then.

The tropic crystal Rolex were highly prized by Livingston type explorers because the crystals had micro pores drilled in them that allowed moisture to escape and prevented crystal fog in super-humid jungle environments.

How's that? :)
