AP RO Jumbo build quality? (non MBW)

Anyone have experience with the AP RO Jumbo? The non MBW version (which apparently is very well built). Its a beautiful piece and accurate enough for me, but its frustrating buying reps that show up and feel cheap, flimsy, and rough.

I haven't. I'm trying to decide a few things before committing to one, i.e. in some pics the Jumbo appears to have a rather harsh transition from bracelet to case (which oddly looks better on the gold versions), trying to figure out if that's actually the case. Plus the hands on the 36mm are amazing... Just in general, I like the 36 more, but its so small! And then there's the MBW vs. Chinese decision, which is kinda the goal of this thread I guess?

You are correct - the non-MBW version of the Jumbo does have a harsh transition from the bracelet to case, the end link is too narrow and forms a sort of "step" between the case and the link. Other problems are the way too gold bezel screws, the gens are white gold, which is a very faint gold, not brassy gold. Also, incorrect caseback.

The MBW version, although pricey, is the one to get. I don't have one but, from pics and testimonials it is one of the finest reps out there.

I just saw these pics from a recommended dealer on another forum's site:

Judging by the short AP logo at 12, this isn't an MBW/MBK version (the logo is too short on this example, it doesn't span 3 vertical squares, whereas on the MBW/MBK version the applied logo is of the proper height). Yet the bracelet seems to taper into the lugs as they should i.e. no step. If this is indeed the current state of the chinese AP RO Jumbo replication, I think it might be worth it. Anyone have one of these or handle one before and can speak to its quality?

Hi Gang!

and @potentialbuyer

be aware despite overall finish that can vary from "good" to "feels cheap"

that one "weak link" seems to be the material of the clasp -

if you are planning a AP RO to be your daily beater i would

go with the MBK/MBW version (copy of 15202ST)

i dunno so much about the CN clone of the "modern jumbo"

15300ST make but heard one time over at Repgeek

that you are able to bend the metal of the butterfly-clasp

with your fingers!

This seems to be also an issue on the CN clone of the smaller

36mm 14790ST rep - i had one of these too - clasp broke wearing

the watch within days...

Go for the MBK/MBW or ask if you are more into smaller models

if you can still get one of the supposed to be TW-Made 36mm

14790ST reps - George from WM9 did carry these and he once

sent me a "free" watch-case just for modding at no cost!

I am not sure about exact serial of these smaller TW made

ROs (36mm) or which model they try to replicate but i know

that they have display case back and something engraved

on the backside like "edition limit

MBW/MBK , do you guys use this as a standards measurement or for the dealer (Maries Best watches)?

Where would one be able to find theese?

Kind reg

T

Yes MBW = Marias Best Watches = a fictional term once invented

by bavarian badass Adam Weishaupt back in 1776 to describe some

watches that originated from a stall inside of thailands most famous

shopping center (back then) MBK(Mah Boon Krong-Shopping centre)

but not all of this magic replicas are said to be produced in TH.

The owner of this shop/stall inside MBK is also said to

be the keeper of the ark of the covenant and the holy grail too...

thats where the mystical "MBW" watches (see Maria) get their holy powers from ;)

These watches do somehow still exist - however my last mbw rep was

fetched direct from the stall - i guess Paul/Rolexfinder should still

have good contacts to MBW/MBK stall - you can also consider try

for ex. people as narikaa (he used to travel to TH often)

or ask some of our trusted watch dealers here if they are able

to source you a watch. I would try Paul first because lately he

did an MBW/MBK group buy.

All the best!

George
