BP 5004 Gen vs rep

Hi all,

I posted this on RG today but here it is also on RWG also... Just sharing some knowledge on the 5004, and the differences to a Gen.

The latest 5004 BP is a great rep and on a good strap virtually indistinguihable from a distance but nevertheless...

1. AR - big difference but correctable

2. Caseback is very very different

3. Of cource strap but again easy to change. Clasp: different quality obviously and on the gen 5004 it just spells IWC and not the whole words. But again easily rectifiable by obtaining a different clasp.

4. Lume very different. In the gen only triangle (not the dots), and just the 3 6 9 markers, hands (not the PR). and of cource the lume is weaker on the rep.

5. Daysi fault. On the rep the "Days" font on the PR is slightly larger and so it ends up looking like Daysi. Better if you move the Pr to full thus patly obscuring the line before day 7.

6.Quality of printing on the dial numbers different. The gen ones are a little bit more "raised" and "glossier". also dial texture a bit off.

7.Triangle and dots on the rep are raised while almost flat on the gen.

8. Case is ok but, polished rim on rep is ever so slightly bigger than the gen, but we are talking microns here.

9. Hands: Hour hand ok. Minute hand slightly thinner on the gen and again microns longer. Seconds hand quite different: Ballancer part thicker and longer on gen (covers half of the word Automatic on dial while on the rep it touches it), central round part of minute hand smaller on the rep., and the needle part is thicker on the rep.

10.Datewheel slightly recessed even in latest models and color of the background darker on the gen. date fonts are a bit different but ok.

11.Swiss Made font slightly smaller on rep.

12.Pins white and black on rep. silver on gen.

13.Crown: on the rep the printing of probus.. is weaker and the whole round print part is recessed compared to gen.

I think thats all... Maybe a few details here and there. Can anyone add something I missed?

Photos are crap mostly (new to this...) I should try to take some better and more detailed pics soon!

Thanks

Wheaton26,

Beautiful watch! (Just paint those pins silver)...

Who did the lume? great job! I am thinking of luming mine correctly, but I kept postponing it since I ve got the gen but what the hell!

For me the biggest tell is the case back, way off! You would think it was on purpose!

Cheers

As far as I know, this was not discussed before, so please let me ask:

Since the caseback of the BP 5002 seems to be more accurate than the 5004, has anyone done a swap? Can anybody confirm that it would fit? :g:

the 5002 looks more like the real deal, so it´s worth a try.

I assume the pins being referred to are the pinions which hold the hands (i.e. when you look down on the dial and hands the little nub in the center of the hand tubes should be silver rather than black). This is an older thread but I remember thinking to myself that this thread is a testimony to just how "OCD" we all are. At one level the rep looks really good - and it does. But if you look close enough you can find things wrong with everything. :)
