lfovco
Hello, I have just received Titanum Panerai 40b that I purchased from another member. Original thread and watch pics are here: http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/124276-ps-pam-40b/topic/124276-ps-pam-40b/ The watch has a big problem with the CG lever that was never mentioned. When CG lever is in locked position it basically barely touches the surface of the crown, it almost looks like it is not touching it at all. In result it just keep floating open when being worn. It also looks like the CG lever has been tampered with. So I tried the CG+Lever from my SS, old Eddie Lee 111 and even that lever cannot stay in. It's a huge bummer cause the watch is very nice in general with nice mods and great looking crown. It's just practically unwearable because of the CG lever floating and opening problem, and at 400 Euros it wasn't cheap either. I'm looking for an advice as far as what can be done to fix that. Can there be something done to the surface of the crown, like adding a thin layer of "something" to crowns surface. Please help. I would really like hear some advice from the resident experts. I'd hope I could be pointed towards someone who cold fix that as my hands-on skills are very poor. Thanks a lot!
NoobyPanFan
It sucks when this kind of stuff in not mentioned in the sales thread... It is because of the Gen (or T48) crown. It has a deeper dish and the lever foot is too short as you found out. Some guy's have made small metal discs to place inside the dish. If you want to use that crown with that CG you will need either a new lever or fill some of the space in the dish to achieve contact. I was thinking once that poring some clear resin into the dish and letting it dry/harden might actually work and not be visible. Best of luck in how ever you decide to handle it! lfovco
Hi NoobyPanFan, Thanks for your response. I was actually just thinking this morning about different things I may have to do to resolve this. Placing a small metal disk on top of the crown that you just mentioned was something I thought of as an interesting solution. I wonder what glue can hold metal and titanum together. Getting a completely new CG with a new lever may be tricky as I would not know if the lever foot is going to be tall enough. Unless it's one that was created for a rep with a thin crown, maybe it would work. Thanks again

Rolexman
Just shave the base of the crownguard with a dremel. That way the lever will come closer to the crown. It is a risk however if you've never done it before...

I didn't mention that in my sale thread 'cause I never thought it was a relevant fauld, I use to apply a bit of glue in the bottom part of the pin. And it's a common flaw when you change the crown for a new one. Anyway I have offered several options to the buyer, change to the original crown at my cost, send a T48 spring loadad crown which will solve the problem or make an economic compensation in case he decide to sell it. The only option I didn't consider is to offer a money back to avoid the time getting the watch back, solving the issue and selling it again but after seen the pics in my FS post I'm open to consider it also I have a solid reputation here so no probs for the buyer, it will finish with a happy endind (in the strict sense of the sentence) and hopefully the agreement will be published as fast as this post. Cheers & beers. T
lfovco
Thanks a lot torresp, I just got your email and sent you back a response. I do like the options you have offered. And I really like the watch a lot and intend to keep it for a very long time. For anyone else, Torresp is super nice and professional, he has offered very good solutions and I feel that I accepted the best one. People like that make that forum so great. Thanks :-)
