JEKS Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 So, I've been looking at watches that I like, and while the Daytona is the look I'd really like, I can't pull off a $25k watch. So, I stared looking at the Tudor choices and have fallen in love with this beauty. First off, I'd like to know where to start on this. Does the cartel make a decent version, spinmaster, Yuki, etc... to start with? What is a good source for it? One of our dealers, yes, but who has one, has a good one? Once I get the base watch, case, etc... what types of mods would be reasonable for this model? Pushers from Ofrei, gen crystal, replace movement, etc??? I would like to do this up nice and am not afraid to spend where needed to make it look gen. I can buy the gen for about $5k, and I'd like to hang on to a bit of cash right now. Thanks, J
JEKS Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 mods, please delete. my connection timed out when posting, so I thought the first try didn't go through. hurricane alley at present here...
jmb Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 I believe you'll need to build one. It's smaller cousin is easy to build in a rep Daytona case...
JEKS Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 I am wondering if I can use DW's 7034 case with the chrono dial and works shown above. Anyone know how feasible? If so, which movement choices do I have? Gotchas? I would want to use the black bezel on this as above, another idea which I'm not sure is feasible. thx - J
Tagman26 Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 That's a awesome watch. I have a gen Tiger Woods version and it is a eye catcher. To me it has more personality than the Daytona. Good luck on your search.
jmb Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 I believe you can use either an ETA or Asian 7750 in the "native" configuration.
JEKS Posted August 31, 2011 Author Report Posted August 31, 2011 If I were to purchase a modern gen Tudor chrono, I would go with one of the Tiger Woods models. I am considering it, since they are so reasonable on the forums. They are really eye catching and Tiger's been an inspiration to me for years. Sure, he's had a bad couple years, but, 12 under at the 97 Master's... wow, just wow.
JEKS Posted September 1, 2011 Author Report Posted September 1, 2011 OK, so I've had a bit of schooling on the 79160, 79170, 79180 bezel differences, along with some good info on the same variations in 792xx reference line. So, I'm basically decided that I would like to replicate the 79160 with porcelain white, silver or linen dial with black sub-dials. I've seen this case referred to as a 'big block', and I'm curious if it is maybe larger even than the Daytona's to which it is similar. Any thoughts on where I could source a case set or dial for this? thanks - J
Ephry73 Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 How much bigger is the case compared to a Daytona? E
JEKS Posted September 2, 2011 Author Report Posted September 2, 2011 Ephry, I have no idea. I searched a bit to find a drawing or dimensions and came up blank. That was for the Tudor. I was assuming the Daytona dimensions would be easier to locate. - J
superlative Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 JEKS, the one that you have pictured is a Big Block Tudor. The case is thicker than the Daytona.
JEKS Posted September 2, 2011 Author Report Posted September 2, 2011 OK, thank you super. Do you know if the diameter is larger as well? Would anyone know where to source a rep for this case? thanks - J
JEKS Posted September 6, 2011 Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 I now realize there are no case replicas for the ref. 94300, 791x0 or 792x0 Tudor chronos. I am looking for something acceptable that will both resemble the Tudor case (big block Oyster) and fit my gen Tudor dial and hands. I am hoping a case that fits an A7750 exists, since Valjoux 72 are so expensive. Please name the source as well, as I want this to be a good looking piece. Thanks - John
JEKS Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 (edited) I've received my gen Tudor Chrono hands and dial, so now I'm on the hunt for a good Daytona style case in which to house this. I need a movement that has the proper spacing for a Tudor Chrono, and the case must then fit this movement properly. I would also like to assure it has the pusher spacing which is correct for the Tudor, which I'm not sure is symmetric or asymmetric like the Daytona. Can someone please fill me in on; What movement to use? And, with that movement, what is a good choice for supplier? Yuki, DW, etc...? Thank you, J I should also mention that the gen dial I have is a Price Date with 3 chronos dials. It does have the date, therefore, the movement/case should support the date function. jmb Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 What is the dial diameter? Either an ETA or Asian 7750 with sub-dials in the "native" location will work. I have a new 7750 Daytona rep case if that is what you wind up having to use.
Tagman26 Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 You will love that Tiger Tudor. Ill post a picture of my gen. By the way JEKS I love your avatar...
Tagman26 Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 Here is my gen Tiger Tudor. I've had this watch for years. She needs a little buffing. I just put the original strap on it. I had a gen Rolex Oyster SS bracelet on it during the summer and it looked awesome but I swapped it out since it's getting cooler outside.
JEKS Posted September 9, 2011 Author Report Posted September 9, 2011 Justin, The dial I have is Tudor part # 13/79160-17 with the words LUMI U-07 written underneath that. The hand parts numbers with the digit underneath them are as follows; V14-9241 1 V15-9421 1 V15-9426 3 The dial measures 1.141 (my dial reads inches) which converts to 29mm. Do you know if this dial will work with the 7750 'native' you mention, or will this require a non-native arrangement? Last, which case do you have available? Source/ref. #. Thank you, J
JEKS Posted February 9, 2012 Author Report Posted February 9, 2012 So, anyone know of any 7034 cases or similar with which I could build a Tudor chrono on the market now? Or, anyone interested in selling one? Thanks - J
Ephry73 Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 The 16520 case I have will work on a dial that size. It houses a 7750 auto and everything seems to be ok. Look for one of those reps. I saw on another forum one with a bad 7750(probably bad keyless or chrono setting) sell for 90. E
