Nanuq Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 When my son made Eagle Scout a few years ago I went looking for something really special. This is what I found... a village Elder in Shishmaref makes a few carved pieces each winter, and brings them to town for the Fur Rendezvous native gathering. I got lucky and he was willing to sell me this one. It's mounted on a piece of moose antler with a walrus tooth, and baleen on the ends. The carving on the handle just blows me away. 1
vlydog Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 That is exquisite B! Thank you for sharing.
Nanuq Posted September 26, 2011 Author Report Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks! I just cannot imagine the skill it takes to carve that. Where do you even start?
vlydog Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 My father carves decoy ducks and we a have a friend of the family who also carves. I have great respect for those who are skilled with there hands and have the vision to accomplish great works of art. Your son did get the knife as a present; right?
modelizer Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 WOW! Now that is some serious carving skills! Thanks for sharing!
Nanuq Posted September 26, 2011 Author Report Posted September 26, 2011 Yeah I gave it to him at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. He knew I had something really nice for him, but had no idea what it was.
vlydog Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 A gift he will treasure and never forget!
