Nanuq
When my son made Eagle Scout a few years ago I went looking for something really special. This is what I found... a village Elder in Shishmaref makes a few carved pieces each winter, and brings them to town for the Fur Rendezvous native gathering. I got lucky and he was willing to sell me this one. It's mounted on a piece of moose antler with a walrus tooth, and baleen on the ends. The carving on the handle just blows me away.

Nanuq
Thanks! I just cannot imagine the skill it takes to carve that. Where do you even start?
vlydog
My father carves decoy ducks and we a have a friend of the family who also carves. I have great respect for those who are skilled with there hands and have the vision to accomplish great works of art. Your son did get the knife as a present; right? Nanuq
Yeah I gave it to him at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. He knew I had something really nice for him, but had no idea what it was.
