pete g Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 hi all, i'am curious, is there a drop in replacement for the asia 21j that is used in most replicas?
RWG Technical Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 In many cases the Miyota 8215 can fit without much modification, there are many factors which have to line up perfectly in order to swap a movement. You have to try it to know if it will work, and it's a lot of work requiring tooling, knowledge, skill, etc... Realistically...the best value overall, not only for the movement, but the dial, hands, case and tube and crown quality etc, is to buy the higher end ETA models, in the end you really get what you pay for. The $100 watches with the A21J are 10% of the quality of the higher cost ones...it all depends on what you want to do, and what your looking for.
pete g Posted November 28, 2011 Author Report Posted November 28, 2011 well, the reason i ask is i thought the advantage to buying a cheap replica with the asia 21j movement was that you could just replace it if it developed a fault. from what you say its not that simple.
Jkay Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 If you drop in the Miyota, be aware that they do not hack. When the Chinese copied the Miyota, they improved it with a hacking mechanism. The a21j can be bought for pocket change at Cousins or O.Frei online watch making shops. $15 ....
pete g Posted December 1, 2011 Author Report Posted December 1, 2011 thanks for the info. much appreciated.
