sergio789 Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 hey fellas. just got my Evolution Red Magic. Seems that case assembly quality might be an issue. There is a sizeable gap between case mid section and top plate (the one under bezel) by the crown. It is visible if you look into the light through it and I can also stuff a thin sheet of paper in it. Wondering if others might have the same thing going on. And if that might render "water tightness" useless. Moisture and dust can easily penetrate the mech and damage it. Tried tightening those two little screws on either side of crown to no avail. Any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers
Mickey Padge Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Pictures would help here, doubt the case is going to let in dust or water, there's a solid metal case under all the other attached parts
Mickey Padge Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Can't really see anything wrong there?
sergio789 Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 see how light goes through the gap in caseset above the reset pusher (behind the crown)? Not saying it's wrong, wondering if it's normal, acceptable etc. And if other Evolutions are the same.
Logan Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Hublots have an inner case, which is water proof (hopefully if it's a rep)'then the outer parts which are only cosmetic all attach to that. The gaps are just the outer parts not fitting quite right. Have a look for some big bangs parts photos and you'll see what I mean
sergio789 Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 Thanks guys. I realise there is an inner case and multiple outer pottery bits etc. My point is... do I need to hassle supplier for a fix or is it a waste of time and courier $$$ as all other rep HBBs are the same? Cheers
Logan Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 No they are all like this to some degree, and be careful tightening the screws if its ceramic.. you can crack the parts pretty easily The waterproofing is entirely the inner case, so this won't have any effect. All HBB's let water inside the outer case parts.
sergio789 Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 supplier has offered to try and fix skewed installation. So I'll flick it over to PRofC in the next few days and hope for the best. Mainly if the package goes OK in reverse. Might end up with a truly "hand made" version of HBB , at least will get extra attention on assembly aspect.
Logan Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 It's possible to get these very good with a little time. One tip, there are 3 different lengths of screw, but 2 are very close, if you mix them up you'll get a crappy build and screw heads sitting proud and catching on clothing. The shortest and longest one go in the bezel, the middle length go in the strap attachment points. You will need a micrometer to tell the difference. .2mm from memory.
