Russian Mvt. ?

I was looking at vintage Pam's from various dealers, (Josh, Andrew and Davidsen) some of which had the Russian mvt., and I have recived conflicting information on the Russian Manual Mvts. reliabilty and quality.

Any concerns with this mvt.?

Thanks for the input....John H.

I have just read the attached link sent in answer to your question, the one point it noted was the lack of any shock protection on the 3406 movement that is found in the watches you are talking about. I have one of these pans with the russian movement, i dropped it and it broke, but a new movement was easy to find and to replace. The quality of the bridges feels very good and the engraving makes it look authentic (although a little to clean) I have seen these movments with stick on plates that dont look as good. If you are thinking of getting one please do as long as you dont drop it on to a tiled floor from 6 foot away it should be fine. Other people have said they arive dirty or not oiled but so do many other movements, just get it serviced and cleaned.

I hope this helps, enjoy that vintage pan i know i do.

You might find that these are no longer available - they now come with either ETA or CN 6497 movts. The molnija is a copy of the Cortebert 616 which did not have shock protection so can break if dropped, but the Molnija does have shock protection so that should not be a problem unless dropped very heavily from the top of a tall building or it's owned by Nanuq!!!

Stem replacement is an absolute nightmare on these as the clutch lever in the keyless works slips out of engagement with the clutch and means you have to have the patience of a saint when putting back together.

I think i must have had an old one then as there was no protection on it, i replaced it with a vintage movement from a pocket watch, £10 from ebay, the seller stated that it had been serviced and timed, and it works a treat, it has the old style screwed balence that looks better in a vintage style watch but i have not transfered the bridges over as i dont want to break it. I think it realy is a good copy of the old Cortebert just a few curves wrong but looks good in my eyes.

They look good, if you like it go for it, also the russian movements are slowly being phazed out by a lot of sellers, but i like them. Whos albul is that by the way

Albul?

The photo of the 2533 is from Davidsen...John H.

PS... i think I would prefer the Swiss Eta/Unitas 6497 or 6498, given the choice ... whether it was period correct or not, is not a concern...J.

I like it but would be looking for a proper strap for it withthe screws all the way through or sew one on, also i think that the movement is one with the plates stuck on, dont worry about it i have the raw russian bridges on show on mine and it is fine for me.
