blackfidel777 Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 Hi. Please help .I have Rolex 1500 case i would like to build Explorer 1016. i have a question which Eta movement to use ? and what Clark crystal will fit ? And which Yuki dial. Thanks in advance.
preacher62 Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 Not sure that a 1500 case would be a good candidate for a 1016 Explorer. The 1500 is a 34mm case with 19mm lug-to-lug endlinks on the bracelet. A 1016 is a 36mm case with 20mm lug-to-lug. For a movement...the 1500 did use the 1570 Rolex movement so an ETA 2824 with a no. 2 expansion ring from rafflestime.com would probably work. Why not make a 1500 date watch? That would be cool and you could make one that would be near perfect.
monkeypunch Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 You can make a 5500 Explorer, that's what I did. You need a movement that is the same size as a 2824, I would suggest an ETA 2472 (which I will soon be putting in mine). It beats the same as the gen, 18,000 bph. I tried a few Clarks crystals, in the end I had to grind the cyclops off and re-polish it. For a dial I would try Yuki. See my thread here: www.rwg.cc/topic/149452-5500-explorer-franken-help
blackfidel777 Posted October 7, 2012 Author Report Posted October 7, 2012 Thanks for the information . Cheers.
irate03 Posted October 12, 2012 Report Posted October 12, 2012 I was told to get a Clarke Tropic 22 for my 1016 build, I ended up getting a plexi from Cousins UK, but I still ordered a tropic it's in the post.
