dieselpower
Take a look: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-7mm-Triple-Lock-Crown-Submariner-Vintage-Watch-Tudor-Possible-702-crown-/321081613130?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_WatchAccessories_SpareParts_SM&hash=item4ac1f49b4a Firstly, I'm pretty sure it's not a 702. But it is interesting in that it appears to be a 703 with the bottom edge 'shaved' to give the appearance of a 702. This is something I've not seen before. What do y'all think? freddy333
Hard to tell with certainty, but, based on his pics, the use of the word 'possible' in his title & the fact that all of his previous sales are marked private (though some of the buyer comments reference non-watch items), I would not bid more than you would be willing to pay for a used aftermarket crown (& do not be surprised if you receive a broken crown at that). dieselpower
I agree. I'm not interested in buying it at all. I was thinking along the lines of what might be possible with a gen tall crown 703. Do you think one of these could be modded to more resemble a 702? ie shaving that inner edge to get a more 702 look? Whilst we're on the subject, what - visually are the differences between a 702 and a 703 anyway? I know the crimped construction of the 702 has the 'sunflower' appearance but other than that the coronets (on a tall crown 703 and 702) appear the same don't they? How about the 'V' shaped grooves - same number on a 702 as a 703?
freddy333
The style of this crown is 702 (note the close proximity of the 3 dots to the crown - they are further apart on the 703/704). I would not worry about the underside crimping since it is not seen. Unfortunately, those 3 dots look (as best as I can tell from his dark, shadowy pics) a bit too wide, which is a hallmark of an aftermarket Triplock.
