Swap a DG4813 to a 2824-2?

Hello,

My name is Tom and I am new to all of this so please bear with me. I recently purchased a 42mm Planet Ocean with the DG4813 in it. As soon as I received it, I had issues with the hands sticking and the watch stopping. I pulled the movement and verified this as what was happening, as I am not sure If these 4813,s have the high cannon pinion vs low, (I see how impossible it is to get a high) I thought instead of trying to get another 4813, is it possible I could go with a 2824-2 ETA or Clone? I see that the movements are almost identical. I guess the question is, would this movement or any other movement swap out with the 4813 without any major modifications? If worse comes to worse I am going to have to get another 4813 and hope someone can get the hands on for me. I attempted to reinstall the hands without a proper puller/pusher, and ended up bending the minutes hand and breaking the seconds hand. I had initially attempted to try and slightly bend the hands so they would clear, finally had the minutes and hour hand on and moving properly, but for the life of me could not get the seconds hand to pop in. So either way I am going to have to get a new set of hands as I know even if a swap is possible the hand sizes are different between both movements. Can anyone please help me?

I've swapped DG to ETA in Rolex reps with no problem. And I've seen others that have been done. But, you'll have to cut the dial feet and mount the dial with glue or double sided tape. And, of course you'll have to get a new set of hands.

Or, the easiest would be to swap in a DG2813 which is lo-beat but the difference is hardly noticeable and it would be a lot cheaper.

Thank you, but isnt the 2813 slightly bigger then the 4813, or wont it make a difference, like the 4813 is 4.60mm and the 2813 is 5.4 04 5.6mm?

You're right blackbull, new series DG2813's are slightly bigger at 5.4mm (DG4813 is 4.6 mm) but both should fit, as it likely accommodates up to 5.4mm. Further, note that the "-1" or "-2" designation will indicate beat rate, 2813-1, 4813-1 vs. 2813-2 or 4813-2 for example, "-1" is lumpy low beat 21k bph, "-2" is high beat 28k bph.

Thank you very much. As you can see I have been looking about reading doing my homework so to speak. There is alot to grasp! LOl I guess maybe I will just get a new set of hands and a 2813 and at least get this brand new watch working again...

Even though I am sure this has been covered a zillion times... They tell me search is my friend? lol

Btw blackbull, some have noted that 4813's with tall cannon pinions are harder to find, but ymmv for everyone. Certainly being cost effective is a good move with respect to the future.

Also, interestingly, the beat rate of the gen omega 8500 is 25,200 bph (bph), tuned down from 28,800 vph having to do with position and the coaxial system, just as they had done in the 2500C movement.
