Watch stops when upside-down

Hey guys, as the topic states, I just got a watch with a 7753 that stops running whenever I flip it over to look at the movement. When I turn it back over I can tap or shake it and it starts running again. It also seems to be running awefully slow.

What could cause this?

Thanks ceejay.

Ok so the movement does not stop immediately, but the balance wheel slows down dramatically and eventually comes to a halt.

There are other issues as well with the chronograph but I'm just curious about the movement stopping when upside down.

Any other theories?

You were told right. Look at your pivots on the balance wheel. Usually the one under the balance bridge gets crunched. Quick test is to check end shake on the balance wheel. It should be barely perceptible on the order of microns of movement. If your balance wheel is sloppy loose you have a broken pivot and need a new staff. Not an easy job to replace even with the proper tools.

And by the way Admin: Balance C o c k is not a profane word!!! <g>
