tonyp1
I've noticed that this is a popular watch to mod. Well heres my CN 1680 wanted a MBW but $600 was too steep I've got $235 in this one ( GEN Crystal) $50.00. I also think this watch has a more accurate date font. BMWrolex
very nice job... the gen crystal does it well..... What rolex history book is that in the background, and is it any good?

tonyp1
Its "AN UNAUTHORIZED HISTORY ROLEX WRISTWATCHES" by James M Dowling. Yes and no it really has good info for early watches and dress watches not so good for the sport models. Edited January 26, 2007 by tonyp1
tonyp1
Sorry, but no. I think so !!! Left Gen Right MBW. Edited January 27, 2007 by tonyp1
ubiquitous
Nope. The 3's, the 6 in 26... Nothing like genuine, or even remotely close. This is accurate:
tonyp1
To my eyes the MBWs font it too bold, the CNs is more fine and the 6 to me on the CN looks closer to Gen than the MBW. Edited January 27, 2007 by tonyp1
ubiquitous
...wasted breath (or in this case, wasted keystrokes)... Please do yourself a favor and physically handle a genuine 1680 or 1665... It's good education.

Nah mate... the gen datewheel print is bolder then the mbw's print itself... the only thing that the CN Sub date wheel has going for it is that it is silver... (Nice watch btw... i have a similar one with a aftermarket 127, aftermarket insert on a mbw/wm rivetted bracelet.) some of my own home modding ... you can do these ones up to a decent spec ... but imho the cn case isn't as accurate as the mbw . I agree that The MBW is a better watch save the movement. This is my Gen BTW. Its a bastard watch with a 5513 case back. tonyp1
I see what your saying now the 6 is too open but neither the MBW or the CN are great.
tonyp1
This is all I have not sure if its a hack movement Tried to sell It once on ebay bid up to 2500 but I paid 5000. I put it on the Ultimate Rolex Forum too got a offer of 2700 what a insult ! Its a Circa 78 Edited January 26, 2007 by tonyp1
thewightstuff
you would know if it was hack as soon as you pull the crown out. its impossible to not know unless youve never had to set the time...which would be.....impossible 5k is very steep and into red sub territory. your offers were probably only from dealers wanting to part the watch. its hands and insert are replacement and dont match the dial which takes a big bite out the value/desirability already. when you then add in strange casebacks etc most people would steer way clear of a purchase, especially on the likes of TURF or timezone. mid 3ks to low 4ks is the usual range of white 1680s with all the bits correct
