Hi there,

I've got a diving team 1000 (Sector) which could use some freshening up of the black engraved numerals in the bezel. I am wondering what the experts recommend to do this... i am assuming it is some type of lacquer based paint, but I'd like to hear what others use for this purpose.

To illustrate, here's a picture of a DT1000 date with really nice looking engravings which have a sharp nice black finish:

How about a Sharpie permanent marker, the pen-like one with the very fine .7mm tip. Worked like a charm on a few of the faded engraved markers on my gen ss Explorer II.

Someone here a while back recomended some kind of a compound used to mark the writing on gun parts. It comes as a stick and you rub it into the text then wipe off the excess and it sets. I can't remember who.. I think it was whoever PVD'd a 196 case if that helps.

I've used small amounts of automotive exterior paint for mine. I had some left over- Sikkens toner black I believe, which was sitting in a small little metal container in my garage. I poured a very small amount into a styrofoam cup, dipped a rag into it and went over the numbers on my Daytona bezel very lightly (bezel was removed). Once applied, I used a clean rag to wipe off excess paint on the top surface. Being automotive paint, it should stand up to the elements.

Logan- I think you are referring to a gun bluing pen?

gun bluing pen, good idea, i'll look into it. does need to be something that can stand up to chlorinated pool water, which is where i wear it the most when i'm practising for dives. i will also check out the auto paint, although if it is lacquer based, you really have to be careful with that as the solvent in the paint can cause problems. thx. again guys!
