Pugwash Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 The owner seems to be a genuine collector. I have no reason to believe he thinks it's anything but genuine. Still, there's something about it that makes me wonder ...
b16a2 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 aarrrgghh the picture won't load, do you have a link to the original page it was on?
Pugwash Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 looks gen to me, Me too, apart from the straight line S and the over-sized date window. I'm confused. The only difference I can see with mine is the lume looks neater and there's lume in the chapter ring.

b16a2 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Thanks Pug. I would say that's a replica. Fit and finish looks outstanding, but the there is definitely no curve on the S like the genuine. I can't imagine breitling would change the font throughout the production process. Also the 'ring' around the peral is too thin. The gen has a thicker ring, therefore making the pearl itself slightly smaller than the replica pearl.
Pugwash Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 A gen picture of the model with the square-sectioned bracelet:
richard_uk Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Bezel is different on that gen one, it has ticks under the numbers on the gen but not on the one from the forum.
richard_uk Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Heres a new model gen, the bezel pearl looks spot on to me, as does the date font, dunno about that S and date window though...
f4juk Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I think the gen is the original 42mm Steelfish from 2005 whereas the rep looks to be based on the 44mm Steelfish X-Plus version released in 2006. The lack of minute markers to the right of the date aperture is the most obvious sign.
1976 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I think it is a gen, because the numbers are flat on this despite on the rep are curved.
dak244 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 (edited) Can someone tell me what is on the date window in this picture? Can't find anything else... Edited March 24, 2007 by dak244
Pugwash Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 Can someone tell me what is on the date window in this picture? Can't find anything else... A drop of water.
coolfire Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 A drop of water. No, It's melting! :bangin:
richard_uk Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 He's posted your requested rear shot.....
Pugwash Posted March 25, 2007 Author Report Posted March 25, 2007 He's posted your requested rear shot..... Gen. Damn, these reps are closer than I thought. My dial is identical to his apart from the better applied lume and the lume blobs on the chapter ring. Everything else looks identical.
richard_uk Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Pug does yours have the serial numbers on the end links? the one pictured on Josh's site doesn't appear to have them.
Pugwash Posted March 25, 2007 Author Report Posted March 25, 2007 Pug does yours have the serial numbers on the end links? the one pictured on Josh's site doesn't appear to have them. Let me get the bracelet as mine's on leather at the moment ... I have numbers on the last moveable links, not the actual end links.
richard_uk Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 So it's the chapter ring lume and the end link serials then, allways good to know what to look out for on ebay scam auctions.
richard_uk Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 ok forget the end links, here's a gen on ebay that has the serials on the last link not the end links, seems to be one or two inconsistencies with the gen.
Pugwash Posted March 25, 2007 Author Report Posted March 25, 2007 So it's the chapter ring lume and the end link serials then, allways good to know what to look out for on ebay scam auctions. Yup, I'm not sure about the pearl any more. It's too close to call. One of these on eBay with a leather strap will be hard to spot. Maybe someone will point out something obvious that we've missed, but there appear to be enough slight variations (date wheel?) that this is close enough. Yes, it's gone to the top of my list of accurate reps. I believe don't own anything closer to gen.
richard_uk Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 unless that one on ebay is a rep? he's not showing any paperwork, and it's hard to say if there's any lume on the chapter ring, hmm. [edit] oh just noticed it has the correct S.
