chris5264 Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I got my gold hands from Davidsen today and here is what they look like on the 183. I'm pretty happy with them and actually think they look better (at least more vintage) then the black hands.
tomtofa Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I like that effect. I also like the strap - where's it from?
chris5264 Posted April 14, 2006 Author Report Posted April 14, 2006 Thanks, the strap is a custom from Greg Stevens.
ehtolcad Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 looks great i'd love to own a 47mm rad with the gold hands
chris5264 Posted April 15, 2006 Author Report Posted April 15, 2006 How's this? its a 47 mm vintage with gold hands. If I could just get it to work now. I replaced the Russian movement with a gen 6497 but I'm having a few problems getting it all working. Still, looks good I think.
Faber Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 the gold hands looks good...give it a more vintage look...great
sssurfer Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Congratulations Chris, it is a beauty! I too had a gold hands idea alike on a 104, and I am currently waiting for the hands from davidsenjpn (already shipped).
Wolf Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Lookin good! I have the gold hands on my 210, its a nice improvement.
tomtofa Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 And then there are the times when ordinary gold hands won't do:
chris5264 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 And then there are the times when ordinary gold hands won't do: Is that a 1938a? That is a great watch, I foolishly sold mine. I like the hands,, really makes a statement.
tomtofa Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 I think the RWX version was called the 1938a, but the watch it referred to was the initial version of the 3646 - started in 1936 to 1938 (depending on what info one chooses to follow). It was used for a long time, up until 1944-45 or so, though it had been replaced by the newer dial by that time. Panerai decided to go with the 3-6-9-12 dial for increased underwater visibility. The case changed at that point, because the new dial was thicker, so the bezel became less flat. This one is a Watchmaster homage; the big gold hands aren't true to the original but rather a tribute to the various gold hands some of the vintage watches have.
