ETA 2824 Datewheel Swap Pics

Recommended Posts

Since many folks have been asking me how to do this...

I am posting this pic for you.

This is an easy job, but only if you have the proper tools (note: proper tools!) and the experience.

Practice on cheapo reps first.

Removing and reinstalling the hands is not for the faint of heart. Practice practice practice!

If you have these skills, then proceed. Otherwise, take it a watchmaker!

FYI: the job takes 10 minutes.

*** Please note that my instructions include the added step of removing the plate for easier access at times when you are dealing with a datewheel that has a large overlay. It's easier to remove the plate and take the datewheel off when this is the case. You can, however, remove the datewheel by depressing the detent spring, pushing the datewheel "in" slightly and remove it.

You are correct Dachshund, but sometimes there are datewheels with big overlays. From my experience, it is nice & easy to remove the plate so that the new datewheel overlay does not come unglued with pressure. They tend to pop off easily - realignment is a veritable pain in the butt!
