Johnkaz Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 I have just taken my last tablet on a 7 day course of Metronidale (an avoid alchohol antibiotic). Do those drug manufacturers have a sadistic streak not a single cold beer for a week. First 2 or 3 days no problem but as time passes slowly by. Gradually and insidiously my every waking thought is a large glass covered in condensation, brimming with ice cold lager, it's not as if I am on the pop everyday but tell me I can't have it and!! Good news tommorow I will wait and look forward that first mouthful All I can say is I am glad I am not teetotal. Cheers Johnkaz.
Jumbie Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 I think it's metronidazole. Usually with antibiotics, the reason they advise against alcohol is because it ramps up your liver enzymes which clear the drug out of your system -> drug is not effective and you need a larger dose. This is why women on antibiotics and birth control are advised to use a backup method of contraception cause the drugs do the same thing to the hormones i.e. clears them more quickly and can lead to pregnancy. With metro, it actually has an effect like Antabuse (disulfiram) which, as you said, has an "avoid alcohol" effect. You'll likely puke if you drink. Enjoy your drink tomorrow. I totally know what you mean with the "want what you can't have" phenomenon.
hoochman Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Ask for different antibiotic next time. If you do not mind what type of infection did you have. The antabuse effect of flagyl is mild by most accounts.
Raijor Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 I shall hoist one in your honour tonight. Cheers
ximenes Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 I should send you a couple of bottles of my Home Brewed Elixers...
Jumbie Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 "Want what you can't have phenomenon" -- isn't that why we're all here? No. I am here to spam stupid topics. Watches are just an added bonus. :jerry:
Jumbie Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 If you do not mind what type of infection did you have. Trichonella VAGINALIS. Teeheehee
dosanim Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Flagyl and Amoxycilline, poor man's Augmentine....the Good stuff. NA brew for me though, I'm always DD.
Johnkaz Posted June 24, 2007 Author Report Posted June 24, 2007 It is back to normal now going out for a couple or so of beers soon. The infection was a speculative I think you have a bowel infection, so take these and have a rotten week, The side effects were miserable dry mouth, sweaty, headache, and very irritable. Cheers Guys
sssurfer Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 The infection was a speculative I think you have a bowel infection, so take these... A bowel infection?!? Wow. The bowel is one of the most infected parts of the whole body on normal conditions too. I hope he gave you metro for nothing less than Entamoeba Histolytica or pseudomembranous colitis, not for an ordinary entrovirus like all that are spreading on this season time. I also hope he gave you some B vitamines too. Killing the most of your innocent and vitamine-providing intestinal microbes, and withdrawing you from beer (an excellent source for B vitamines) would be a slightly nasty joke.
