Folks,

I have been reading everything that i can on the board regarding the Daytonas. I have also looked at PT, Trusty, perfect clones, etc. Does anyone know who has the best - any advice? The 2005 model from Homers, Precious', anc P-C's all look to be the same. Thoughts?

i'd echo ahchard's comments. i've always viewed the modern daytona's as a bit of a crapshoot no matter which dealer you go though due to the movement. some have been successful while others haven't.

and any of those guys would be fine, they're all reputable dealers

i quote myself in the last message i did but the topic seems dead:

Hi i have 5 Daytonas, one swiss 7750 half gold half steel and works perfect.....other 4 with the crap asian 7750 in two months 2 of them stopped recharching i have to wind them manually if i want read hours for two days, the other 2 are 1 months old so i can't say nothing, but the other experience make me think bad about this movement. Ah the other 4 are one full gold, one steel with black face and the other twos are daytona beach one green and the other blue....great watches really to be seen, but the 7750 asian-.....bleah i was tempted in buying a 196 daylight same movemente but i prefer buy a tantalium with ETA...hope they someday will fix that crap movement....bye to all

Hey, thanks for the rundown. Seems like the modified movement is really not worth it. I have seen on silix a couple of "reps" of the "vintage" where the sec at 9 are the norm. The problem, of course, which is well documented on the board - is that the location of the subdials is off. For that matter, the location of the subdials on the new 2005 reps seem to be off too. So it looks like the Daytonas are not really worth the trouble right now. Seems lilke a big oversite - since such a big opportunity.

Hey - was loooking at this one - any thoughts? Does this movement solve any of the problems? The cost is certainly high enough.....

Thanks!

Aside from the movement issues described above--there is a related thickness issue you can see in the side view in those pics. I can't remember what the exact thickness difference is, but it is noticeable to anyone who has a Daytona.

Outside of Vintage, the Daytonas just aren't worth it in my opinion.

I respectfully have to disagree with you on that one...

All I need is a Zenith El Primero 400 for this 16520 frankenstein I'm working on- Once the movement is fitted, it will be more or less the same as a genuine 16520 Daytona (same movement, same case, etc). Only difference is that 1) it will not have the provenance of originating from Rolex S.A. and 2) it won't have the Rolex signed rotor and 4030 signed bridge. Oh, and it will still beat at the trademark Zenth high beat 36.000bph.

More info here...

Obviously, I meant 'out of the box', Ubi...

I've been familiar with your project for a while, and am still GREEN with envy.

But this dude won't/can't go this route, so my advice to him stands; stay away from Asian 7750s running seconds at 6, they just don't work.
