I just need to remind you if we go with my people that there is this 8 week wait. It might be that they give an outside figure and deliver earlier (makes them look good). Are we beginning to think along the 100 quantity here. Any volunteers to start a new thread and take some numbers. The only problem I can see here is that all members know the retail price, and no-one will profit from this, so there is no room for error if we don't get a 100 orders. If we order and only sell 50 someones got to pay for that difference so how should we handle this.

I'd be happy to start the thread if sssurfer doesn't object to starting a new thread.

I'm really thinking that 100 is the way to go, especially if we can extract at least a partial guarantee. Looks like we have more that 35 in this thread alone, plus whoever else is interested.

As soon as we all agree I can initiate the order. Payment has to be made prior to delivery to me. I'm going to need 7 days to draw the money from pp into my bank account in order to pay them (unfortunately I don't have a credit card) so all payments would need to be in promptly. I will also need extra to cover the postage out so there would be a set fee to add to cover that (something like $7.50 or so). Also I would need the payments making in UK Sterling so that you will absorb the pp fees and not me!! - So - are we a goer :yu:

Finepics-

I am happy to be fiscally helpful. :) Aren't we still waiting on the pricing and timing from Archibald's contact though?

On the issue of 50 versus 100. At 50 pieces, I am happy to step up for a few more to take up the slack and then resell at cost. I know Ziggy, Finepics, RBJ and other modders will be bombarded with requests. I would simply sell them at my cost plus the extra shipping cost. At 100, someone should be making a modest profit as that is a capital outlay in the $1,500 - $2,000 range in excess of what we are signed up for. My math may be off though. By the way, I am not volunteering to do this. But whoever does should make enough money to buy a high end rep. :D

Well mine are cheaper but a longer wait, and I think the cost is still an issue. If we order 100 then the gross price is 10.75UK with the tax + .07 shipping plus the post out. So each crystal is 10.82 + 5.00 shipping all in UK Sterling. The tolerance problem is no longer an issue so in theory we are good to go. Archie just Pm'd me and I think he's on with my lot but we should have a new thread giving details coming up (once sssurfer's agreed).

Surely it is ok to me that we start a new thread for the orders, just please don't ask me to post it with my poor English!

I also think we should post it (or at least a reference to it) in the General Section in order to gain visibility.

And we could also post in the other forums as well.

BTW, I plan to be in for 8.

My inbox is all Viagra, free Best Buy gift cards, Liberal Propaganda, and Diet Pills--so unless I wake up to an email I say we figure my guys couldn't find a way to beat finepics' guys and were hoping our impatience would carry the day. I vote for starting the ball rolling in the UK. Finepics, have you heard back from the vis a vis a guarantee?

I'm dead tired from a brutal day-off football game with my merciless children, so I'll post the thread in general discussion before work tomorrow. I also put down some fragmented ideas about the money bit in a PM to finepics...can you forward it to Kruzer and ssurfer and whoever else might be inclined to join our merry band of brothers now that we may need some dough? :whistling:

Just spoken again on the phone to my man. He will credit any that are unusable due to being out of spec, but obviously would not credit for unsold lenses. He is specifying a tolerance limit of 0 / -.1 so that the upper tolerance is 0. This means that at the other end they will be .1 thinner so would still be useable and the difference unnoticeable. So there should not be any that are unuseable.

Just posted in Gen. discussion. Any suggestions to improve the post?

archie, I copied your post on WT and RWI too. I just added a pray about not to duplicate orders from other boards.

I wonder if it could be appropriate to also add a point-out to how much these cyclopses are going to be worth to watchsmiths & co...

and/or how much a cyclops this quality would cost, if one had to ask a repairment shop for it...

...provided that the shop is able to find it. :D

@all who posted thir comments: thanks for your appreciation guys.

I wonder how much the gem one would be - couple a hundred bucks!! I have emailed my people again to ask for the full price based on 75 units and also asked if the tax will need paying if the order is shipped out of the UK. Will submit full order tomorrow.

Still nothing from the sapphire guys over here who it seems were dicking us around--thusly I don't mind mentioning their name, out of california. I did however here from the SF11 guys who called to ask if I was still interested. I simply told them what has transpired: that we've decided on sapphire, that we've placed an order, but that if something bad happens to that order SF11 would be our next choice. He said, fine, no problem, it was a small order anyway, but if we need them to give them a call.

Hi there,

I followed this thread (on old rwg, too) for a long time, tons of pretty nice information that has to be read (and of course to be understood :Jumpy: )

First: I want to say thank you for all that great work you have done and all information you are sharing! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I sent an inquiry to Edmunds in the past. I simply asked them for plano-convex lenses with 6mm diameter and a 2 or 2.5 magnification coefficient while the lense (with a 1.2mm c.t) has a distance from the object (date wheel) of about 3 or 3.5mm.

Was that the wrong way...? I hope not. I am still waiting for an answer which will be forwarded here asap. Maybe it helps but maybe there is another solution found by the meantime. Then pardon me but this thread is that big... Maybe I overread some important postings... :whistling:

Regards

Frank
