The Asian 21J movement is every bit as good, if not better, than the run-of-the-mill ETA2824s, except the badging, of course..... Is it a better movement than the Miyota 8512? Don't know what you are refering to about the ETAs. The least expensive automatic ETA they carry is the 2824 and it is 30 pounds or about $55. All of the rest of their automatic movements by ETA are much more expensive Sorry, you are right. I mean £ and not $, and the Asian 21J is a 'licenced' copy of the Miyota 8xxx series movement. It's solid, accurate when regulated, and reliable. It doesn't beat as fast as the 28xx ETA's but that gives it a longer power reserve as a result. You'll never convince some people though that it is a match for the ETA. The relative price of these movements as loose spares belies the profit margin and 'premium pricing' policy behind the 'Swiss' ETA reps. As I said in another thread - in the past I'd buy an ETA powered rep as the increase in price usually also gave you a better and more accurately dimensioned case and just better finishing detail compared to the Asian movement equivalents, but this is becoming less and less true with exactly the same quality watch/band combination being shipped with a choice of Asia 21J or ETA movement. Two examples of this being the latest Omega Seamaster 300m's, and black/LV Subs as sold recently by Trusty, TTK, Lucky and others.
