Silver display backs on gold plated replicas

More and more often I see silver display backsides on rose gold replicas why is this? and is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Is the gold plating so poor it can not tolerate human contact?

In fact the gold plating is comming off the back of my rose gold VC regulatore I suspect the plating can not tolerate human sweat

I would assume you are right-- but we all know what assume means.

However, I have an old tag gen which I probably wore everyday for 10 years. It has a two tone bracelet and the gold is wearing off the outside, not the inside. So go figure?
