Guest Carl
Ordered it a week ago and received it Saturday, and have been wearing it since. $58 + shipping. Of course the Oyster bracelet came off in a minute... but what to put on it? The watch came quicker than I expected so I hadn't dealt with that problem. Then I remembered an old Datejust not worn much anymore, and there was my band- a leather deployant. It is kind of growing on me. As for the watch, it appears to be a copy of a scarce version of the 5510 which had a small run in 1958 with an Explorer model dial. And it has plenty of inaccuracies- I think I'm aware of most of them, but I'm happy to have it. In fact I am delighted. Perhaps if we buy enough of these, we'll get the coin edge bezels and oversize crowns somewhere down the road. BTW the surplus oyster bracelet is noticeably nicer that the one that came with my LV Beginmariner a couple of months ago- so it will be recycled. alligoat
Carl, I think that watch looks pretty good on the dark brown alligator/crocodile type strap. And I guess the nice thing is, no one will ever call you out cause they don't know what it is! I'm still kicking myself because I got the Explorer dial with the 200m=550ft on the dial- sheesh, you'd think I'd know better. But I'm certainly going to get a dk brown strap for it soon, although I do like the Nato on it. And of course, Bond wore his Rolex on a black croc band strap in Dr. No! BTW, here's a Rolex buckle you might like. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270127069767 Adds a bit of authenticity to your Rolex!! Guest Carl
"Adds a bit of authenticity to your Rolex!!" Thanks for your comments. Number two son has that strap on his vintage Cellini and it looks great (sorry, can't find the pic just now). But I should have put up another photo, so here it is from the back: As I say, it is growing on me, but I don't have any illusions that I'm James Bond!
