hottoddy
I've always been partial to the Venus/Lemania Speedmaster. Apart from the inherent shortcomings of that movement with three subdials, the replica is pretty darn accurate. The fly in the ointment for me is the display back: borrowing one of TTK's great pictures. Is there an aftermarket genuine or rep caseback that will cover this obviously incorrect movement? The original doesn't even have a display back, so I'm not sure why the rep factories continue to pump them out like this. Any thoughts? marrickvilleboy
well actually, they do come with see through caseback. The movement isn't too far off i reckon. I would be more concerned with the subdial spacing.
hottoddy
Displays were only offered as an option with the commemorative pieces. Like this: As you can see, it doesn't look anything like the Venus/Lemania - so why even try? There were tons of solid case back versions, so it seems easier to pass scrutiny. Here's on example: There's a comprehensive list of Speedy casebacks here. So, the real trick is finding a solid one that fits the current rep. And as for the wider subdial spacing on the rep, I believe there was a Speedy version that was very similar: Edited May 30, 2006 by hottoddy
marrickvilleboy
yeah i'm working on the Speedmaster automatic right now. The case is smaller than the manual wind up. I've seen quite a lot of Speedmaster automatic (one with day date function instead of chronograph) and they have solid backs, maybe you can try one of those? good luck
