predfan2001 Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I was wondering how many of you have attempted to install a Tropic 19 crystal into a standard vintage Sub (non-MBW). Tropics will not press into my case. The crystals that came out of replicas fit fine. The outter diameter is the same on both crystals. Is it that the Tropic is too thick?
bertieng Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 Mostly likely the rep crystal is thinner than the Tropic in this case. Then the metal part where the crystal wil sit is machined larger in diameter to accomodate the rep plexi. There can be no fix here unless you trim down the thickness of the Tropic which I think would be extremely difficult.
predfan2001 Posted November 1, 2007 Author Report Posted November 1, 2007 Hmmmm...makes wonder then. If you have a "non MBW" Submariner with a plexi crystal and the crystal breaks, where do you get a crystal? This is the first time I've taken a plexi crystal out of a rep. There isn't much of a groove for the crystal to sit in. I just it relies alot on crystal cement to hold it in?
bertieng Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Yes, you are correct. The only chance is to get it from your supplier if he/she still supply. So better to take care of your rep. crystal in case your watch case doesn't accept gen. parts.
