CG modding

Hey all.

OK...get the "protection" ideas out out of your head......at least in the first way you thought.... ^_^

Last time (the first time) I tried to mod CGs....I said never again! Let's just say it did not go according to plan.

Well.....here I go again I suppose. I've got a pretty nice starting piece and I can't resist the temptation to make it a little better.

When you do this....what do you use to keep the shavings out of the stem?

I used "blue" tape to protect the case and crystal...and it seemed to work ok (except when the sandpaper went off and tore it up....LOL).

With the stem being so small...the tape just did not want to stick at all. I switched to regular masking tape but found that it left a residue. Tried to clean the residue with denatured alcohol....and it ate part of the O ring.

So......before I go through this fun again.....I thought I'd ask this time.

elwopo, if you have plastic straws handy, you may have a size that will fit snugly. Cut a piece to the desired length and it should work. You can also wrap tape around it if you want additional protection.

A piece of heat shrink would be similar. You can find these at Radio Shack and come in assorted small diameters.

Best of luck with the project!

Added: I reread your post. Do you mean protecting the case tube? The stem/crown should be safely off the watch. The above will protect the case tube if you decide to work around it.

Sorry....you are completely correct. I meant case tube....just posted too quickly. Was thinking the "stem" of the case... :bangin:

Heat shrink tubing....pure genius. Thanks!

I agree with Pug. Whenever you are doing anything that involves the removal of metal, you should completely disassemble the case. Remove the movement, crystal and crown tube. Otherwise, you risk either damaging one of these other parts or they will throw off your mods because they get in the way of your tools.
