6497 seconds hand removal

I'm a bit confused. Pictured here is an Asian Unitas movement from a 113g that is suppose to have a seconds hand at 9. I want to put this in a 47mm case with a base dial so I will not be needing the seconds hand. Looking at the movement, there does not seem to be any sort of pin coming up from the movement at 9 for the seconds hand to connect to. It's as if the seconds hand has an arm that goes down into the movement and connects to the gears. So therefore, there doesn't appear to be anything to cut off. Am I wrong? Am I just not seeing it? Someone please come to the rescue and straighten me out.

Look at the movement at an angle,,,if the pin isn't extending up,,,you are fine to put a base dial on. I think you are correct, some of the models use a seconds hand that is very long although I think it is more correct to have the longer version of the 4th wheel (the one that makes the seconds hand turn).

That sounds strange to me. I've opened up a few 6497s and all of them had a small pinion sticking out for the seconds hand. You sure you didn't break it while getting the seconds hand out? Maybe the pinion is still in the tube....

Actually I don't have the movement yet, I'm looking to buy it though. In fact, there is a small spindle there that's sticking up. Is cutting it with a pair of pliers an acceptable solution? Short of opening up the movement and removing it. But then I guess if it was removed, the watch might not function properly???
