You strap builders have inspired me!

While I was waiting on my first rep to get here I set out on a mission to find and buy the perfect strap for my rep. Problem is there are so many great straps out there it is a very hard decision. I spent tons of time reading about straps and learning as much as I could. Trying to make up my mind about what strap to purchase and then came up with this stupid insane idea to make my own ya ya I know. Well lets just say it

Great job! How did you stitch? Still need to make the cutouts for the pivoting piece on the buckle, no? I also made my first attempts this past week but used leather contact cement to bond the leather layers - Used exotic skins all lined with super soft lamb skin - check out below:

That dark one is pretty nice, loverly texture, a different thread might improve it but good work, the more you make the better they get. and you have a good starting point.

How in the world did you guys get started in making your own straps?

Nice job! What did you use to finish the edges. I have made a couple now but need the right stuff to finish them properly.

I don't know if you are asking me, but there are a number of options depending on the type of leather and the look you want. Generally it is beeswax and hand burnishing combined with edge dying or edge coating.
